Well it gives your car a bit of character and personalisation.

Why not buy a car that already has character and personalisation and doesn't need a private plate to give it that? :p

Me, I wouldn't have one. I'd rather spend my money on something that actually DOES something for my car. Personalised plates are all a bit 'show and no go', and dare I say it, a bit of a phallic symbol

Some private plates do look good, but they're normally the really expensive ones. I once saw Paul Daniels Bentley in London, and he's got 'MAG 1C'! But all these prefix and suffix plates that used to be on the back of an old Cortina or Allegro look a bit naff as private plates. I mean, most people looking at it would have no idea, nor would they probably care, that three of the letters relate to the owners initials or whatever.

Besides, when you look at a car, it's the car that should grab your attention not the plate! Then again, a private plate on a Fraud Mundano would probably be more interesting than looking at the car itself :D

But if it floats your boat to have a private plate, then who can say you can't have one? It's your money to burn, and you're helping to fund a government department in the process :p It's kind of like a new optional tax

Re: Private number plates

Optional tax for the over-superficial?! I am up for that! I have now been won over for why we should have private plates :)

Re: Private number plates

Well, I wish I could afford GAV1N, as it's my name. However in a few years there will be the chance to spell my surname more or less, so then I may decide to go with it. If I won the lottery (don't play, so it woiuld be a big surprise) then it would be fun to have both and spell out my name outside my mansion! (That is the mansion that I'd buy first after winning - I don't have one now)

The whole initials on a new style plate (eg BO55 GAV) is silly unless you're getting a new car anyway and may as well have letters you'll remember!

Re: Private number plates

R0 NGO would be ideal but i dont reckon you get R0 plates some how. In my own opinion, my my manhood is of more than adequate size not to require a number plate substitute ;) Only kiddin, I spose it looks good on some cars, if your into that stuff then go for it, if you have the £$£ then why not?

I don't have one and wouldn't buy one...

My Northern Ireland plate is cool enough for me - It starts with DEZ so that's what my panda's name is.
