Well, I had my winter tyres fitted today. As soon as I left the garage, a torrential downpour and hail storm started - perfect timing :D

The wet grip on these things is amazing :worship:, I'd be tempted to keep them on all year round if it wasn't for the fact that they'd burn out in summer.

P.S. Here's a close-up pic of the tread pattern on Continental Conti WinterContact TS850, if anyone's interested (click for full size)...

Hi,

Put my winters on today. Im not using steelies as Im not bothered about my OEM alloys and if I damage them it will give me an excuse to get new ones .

Took the opportunity to give them a quick refurb whilst I had the tyres off as they were looking a little tatty.

Will see how they go in the wet and as the cold weather increases before I pass judgement.

sammi just posted on fb that is snowing in cumbria.
checked weather for my area and it said

so looks like it will be change time this week then

2 moments of getting intot he car and realising im starting to freeze up....
Having fun keeping grip on the wet with summer tyres

The temperature has dropped enough to warrant them (under 10degs now averaging)
Odd 15C spike reported for next week - but i bet it'll change by then

Im gonna sit down Fix the Jag (AGAIN!) and then set about putting my trusty stead with the fresh rubber setups :)

Hi,

Had mine on a week now, and so far Im impressed (y) Definite difference in wet grip. They're worth it just for that alone. Im looking forward to how they act in the ice/snow when it comes.

Thanks for the recommendation Ziggy (y)

Did they feel crap at first till you put some miles on them? Like 10 / 15

Mine were crap at first, but once you have traveled, they work brilliantly
I hit that braking point where the wheels are trying to lock up, but you hear them fighting - so it sounds like ABS but it isn't abs

I hope they make a difference if Novemeber is gonna be this ""artic blizzard"" they threatened

Hi mate,

Yeah definitely! When I was fitting them, you could feel how soft the compound was compared to the tyres I was taking off. First trip out and I didn't feel to confident in them at all, felt like I was driving on 4 plates of jelly. I was even going to post here and ask if others were running them at higher pressures.

Drive home was totally different though. Felt normal and you can feel the difference when pulling out of junctions on wet greesy roads and when braking too!

Done over 150 miles on them now and I'm impressed (y)

Crazy to think that I've been driving for years and all sorts of different vehicles/ types of driving etc and this is my first set of winters.
