What do you all prefer?

I always prefered the retro look but i can never make up my mind especially after having a very small go in my dads 500 abarth!

Mmm, tough call, I don't like all the gadgets and safety garbage which is put into modern cars making them heavier but I do like the modern styling and some of the engines - particularly the TwinAir - the amount of power squeezed out of small capacity is great, but you can't beat some of the classic styling and I just have a thing for small cars and nothing these days (except for that hideous Tata Nano :yuck:) even compare size wise.
So for me - classic body with a modern engine plzkthx :D

Hard one, this.
Voted for 'classic car', generally I do prefer older cars, most moderns that to me are just too big, heavy, bloated and fitted with mostly useless kit.

I'm with you on this one, the styling of the classic stuff is far more appealling, mostly. They do need to benefit from the more efficient/reliable modern mechanicals though, which is the plan for most of my collection :).

Having said that, one of the very few moderns I would be happy to run is a 500 Abarth.

Classic cars are much more fun. Louder, better sounding engines which have bags of character unique to each one. Handling is more direct with a much more raw experience.

Modern cars are quieter, tend not to stink of fumes and are more likely to start when you need them to, stop better and often better road holding. Also Heavy bodys, over-tyred, duller engines and not as good looking.

It depends really. In terms of a daily driver a modern car wins hands down. In terms of a car to drive on a nice bit of road or to just look at? A classic every time :)

Must admit I like all the modern gadgets on my daily driver. But I'd never be without my old classic, I'm sure I'd miss it much more than my work car so I'd vote classic all day long :)

I massively prefer the classics, more character, less bloat, and way easier to work on and If had to part with a car the modern would go. Having said that, driving to and from work and leaving the car parked up all day the 206 is the one I take because a modern immobiliser means I'm pretty confident it'll still be there when I get back.

I think I'm tending to go with the modern for everyday and classic for the weekends. I travel around 30 miles each day on the M60/M56 and my Panda MJ will give me a reasonable 58 (ish) mpg. Recently I took Mrs. Beard's 156 to work and I must admit I enjoyed it.

I had the radio off on all three days I took the Alfa so I could hear the engine which I have to be honest I don't do with my loyal little Panda. But, the Alfa used around a gallon a day to complete my commute whereas the Panda could go for two days on the same amount. If I took the 156 every day it would cost me around £120 a month just to get to work and back.

Anyway, I had to give the Alfa back to the little woman and start using the Panda.....well, she did manage to get the handcuffs off and get out of the locked cupboard under the stairs.

As an afterthought though, I think it depends somewhat on which classic you've got in mind. I don't think that commuting into a major city in a 1968 Lincoln Continental or Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham would be a very smart move. On the other hand an old British, European or Japanese classic would probably do the job. I've seen a number of Morris Minor 1000s commuting into Manchester.

One classic I really would love is a FIAT Dino 2400 Coupe. I don't think it would take too kindly to queueing in heavy traffic too well. It would probably overheat and the thought of hours of first gear driving interspersed with almost as much time standing still would wreak havoc with the cooling and three Weber or Dell 'Orto twin choke carbs.

For me I have always prefered the Classic cars as I just feel the whole design of them was better and that they had real character :) Though saying that with the 500 it has bags of character and seems to be proving me wrong!

Classic for weekends and maybe even longer weekend getaways. But
you've got to love the modern ride also.
