Hmm time to edit my last post I don't think it even makes sense!

Well I don't know about the third but I know if I wanted to I could definately vote twice - in fact I know this for certain because that's exactly what I did last year in the euro elections. I voted by post (it was all-postal) in Loughborough then voted in person in Essex (I went home at the end of term).

Don't you have two votes too? If you think it's worth it, go ahead email some newspapers... nothing to lose I guess.

I did get the voting slip for Manchester but it was the day I moved in, I may have chucked it (thinking it didn't apply to me) or I may have kept it and am not sure where.

THe papers would lap this up right now to be honest and it would probably postpone the whole election. Not sure I would want to be the cause of that!

I very much doubt that - we can't be the first people to spot this surely! Certainly no way they would ever pospone it!

But it is a fact - I voted twice last time and I could do it again. Go on, email someone!

Emailed manchester council first to see what they say, see if it would be possible to vote twice.

I have decided to vote lib dem.

Oh it would, if the whole student population was able to vote twice it would destory democracy and it wouldn't go ahead, if it did, the courts would over turn it. It woulud be against democracy.

I found the form and emailed (as above) the address on it for any queries. I don't want to contact somebody important to be told I am stupid lol. See Richard, things like these often are noticed but most people just either don't care, don't follow it up or don't understand!

Dear Paul,
Legally you can actually appear on the register twice in different areas.
Indeed many students do register in this way - at their parent's and where
they study. However, voting twice in one parliamentary election constitutes
breaking the law.

I can post that sort of thing can't I?

So basically it's possible (which is crazy) but relies on trust that you don't vote twice?

Seems crazy to me - so open to abuse. Same way as on the news right now, you can steal someone's vote either by putting their name and address on a postal vote form, or just go to the polling office and tell them you are someone else! As long as you know name and address (available in the phone book) you can have as many votes as you like!

I got a letter from the Lib Dems this weekend asking me to vote for them...I don't know where they got me name but I don't turn 18 til 2 weeks after the election...How do even register as a voter anyway?

Personally I would rather we were a state of the US than a state of the EU. At least we share a common language, history, measures and we tend to be on the same side when we fight wars, which is more than you can say for many of our EU neighbours.
:yeahthat:

Oh yes, the Americans, the people who "sooo give a ****" about us. The same country who put tax on all steel imports (illegally) to stimulate their own market, damaging out already dying steel exporters. Etc. etc. I am sure we could give 100000 examples of this.

I also believe the fact that France is a 20 minute swim is more important than America sharing a similar language.

What I meant by my comment is that without either America or Europe, we will not survive in this world as any sort of power. Personally since the US doesn't give a damn about us and all of Europe is made up of countries of similar size and need then I would rather be with them.

Who we thought a war with or against 60 years ago isn't really that important, survivability as a nation is.

Isn't really that important??? Care to say that to a Jew/War Hero?

Somebody please build a big enough boat to drag the UK across the Atlantic!!!

IMO Europe (Brussels mostly) should sod off. And again IMO the Germans did it twice, if they get a look in, they'll do it again - albeit economically this time (Only this time France will help them, insted of getting whupped again!)

So guess what, I'll be voting UKIP (almost LibDems - BUT only because they sent me an 18th card actually ON my birthday! Can you imagine CK as PM???!).

But as a current student of British and American politics I reckon that there is no real splits between the party's as they are all trying to word the same policies in different ways, whilst fighting viciously for that scrap of ground slightly to the right of centre.

It's possible to argue for hours about this, but as apathy and the "wasted vote" grows - is politics worth it anymore? How many people frankly (in the words of the stupid adverts) "don't do politics"?? I study it and I'm so apathetic it's a joke!
Oh and I'm not right wing...much
:D

Oh yes, I really don't understand the way Europeans used to think about each other, my Polish family is just for show...

You're entitled to your opinion although voting for UKIP you could be voting for your uni course to be canceled, tutition fees to be kept and loans to be removed AFAIK when we looked at their education policy. Great.

OK, what have you lot got against Charles Kennedy. There have been a couple of comments that seem to suggest the idea of him as PM is laughable. I know he's ginger, but he seems a reasonable candidate for the job in other aspects.

I am voting lim dem, their policies seem to go the way I want it to go but him being PM is like Mr Bean being James Bond (and look how bad Jonny English worked out!)

I can't put my finger on it, maybe it's charisma? To me, Blair is how the PM should look, he seems a lot more confident and in control that Blair?

It's probably his body signals....

You can't have a go at people for not liking the EU just because your family is Polish! I don't care what nationality they are it makes no difference to the discussion or people's opinions. You're constantly on about how much you hate America, you don't care about people's feelings then do you!! ') ,)

Richard, my comments about having a Polish family were aimed at somebody telling me that I should try to say what I said about the EU to a war hero/jew. I am fully aware of the situation.....it is relevant. It was nothing to do with using it as a reason for people not supporting the EU.

I dislike the way America acts as a nation, for example their steel import tarrifs they charged at the end of '03 to artificially stimulate their steel economy, this is against international trade law, did they give a ****? Did they ****. Kyoto? Nah, America is above that, their CO/sulphur emissions and the like don't worry them. Iraq, Afghanistan, need I go on? If a nation conducts themselves like this I am going to be a little biased against them.

Few people in this country dislike Germany due to the war, you will probably find the proportion amoungst the elderly is even less since they lived through WW2 and understand it better than most of us. Having said that, since I only am English due to Nazi-soviet pact and a couple of escapes from a Romanian Prison camp and a very very long trip via Canada, I am very aware of what happened. However, the leader of Germany isn't Hitler anymore, there's no reason to be scared.

On that note, Britain's past is little better than that of Nazi Germany, America too.
