I hate to admit it, but I'm getting bored with my Stilo, it's just too slow and I can't afford any mods, let alone the amount I would need to spend to make it as fast as I would like. So the question is, what is the fastest car I could get for under six grand, but there are considerations. I know the fastest would probably be an old Evo, but I don't want an ugly car, sorry if that is somewhat subjective.

It must be capable of fitting three kids in the back, so no two seaters please. Fuel economy is an issue, but not a major one, as long as it is over 20 mpg mixed cycle. It must look nice, but as none of you know what I will think looks nice, just guess. It must be less than 7 years old and less than 60k on the clock, because I will need to keep it for 4-5 years, ideally less than 5 years old and less than 40k.

For everyone who is going to suggest a 20VT, I don't like the slashy look, but if you know of any kits to hide the slashy crap and I can get the car and the kit fitted within budget, that would be fine.

Anyway, that's about it, I have not made any suggestions, because I'm looking for other peoples ideas not my own.

Oh and when I say fast, I don't mean 0-60 times, I mean point to point, so it needs rapid acceleration and good handling, etc.

What about the coupé 20vt? :p ;)

Just thought I had to be the first. I know plenty of people won't read your post fully and miss your point about that.

Did you read mine?

"Just thought I had to be the first. I know plenty of people won't read your post fully and miss your point about that."

Or....is yours also playing on the fact you didn't read mine?

Did prove the point that you were trying to make though.

I have to say the 20VT is a nice car and would fulfill my criteria, but I would constantly be wanting to get some filler to put in those slashes.

Nah you can forget abou them, normally I drive cars from inside so slashes at the back mean nothing....if you don't like them where s most people do, it doesn't really matter.

I think Liam will have something to say about it all.

The thing is I liked the styling when they first came out and have grown to dislike more every time I see them. I don't care what other people think of the car, I don't car what other people think of me, as long as I am happy with me and I am happy with my car. If everyone I met said nice car, it wouldn't change how I felt about the car, I have had plenty of people say that about the Stilo, but, although it is a nice car, it is just far too boring.

I should add that top end is not an important factor, because I don't break speed limits and I can't afford and don't have time to do track days, but I do like to accelerate hard and corner fast when the mood takes me.

I'm not sure about fitting 3 in the back...but the mistubishi FTO is damn cheap for what it is and bloody good value, and damn reliable. But you looking at a M/N reg for 4k plus its a 2L mivec pushing out 200BHP!!

Ps i love these cars, once i'm over 25 and got rid of a few points, i'm buying one!!

OK, I like the FTO, but I would want the performance of the GTO or 3000GT if you prefer, which again would have to be too old. Uno Turbo, I think it would have to have an entirely new body rather than a kit for me to like it, plus it's a little small.

As far as the Alfa's are concerned, too slow, if I could afford a GTA that would be a good bet performance wise, but the 2.5 is only 7.1secs 0-60 which is sporty, but I wouldn't say fast.

I always want too much for too little, but I usually get what I want, it's a question of patience and persistence.

Don't like Beamers, they are too heavy and drive like tanks, well the 3-series, at least. In terms of BMW, I would be wanting an old 850i coupé, which are still at least £10k. I guess we need to think in terms of competitors for the 20VT, like the Nissan 200SX, Rover 220 Turbo Coupé, Alfa GTV, etc., but any other suggestions would be welcome.

I was gonna say the Rover Coupe Turbo, but it isnt exactly good looking...anymore and most will have been thrashed everywhere :S

Theres the Honda Integra Type R, 1997-R reg, bit old but come on, its a Honda. I didnt think theyre that cheap  But group 18 insurance...!

Celica GT Four? Dont know the price or specs. Vauxhall Calibra Turbo, bit old??? VW Corrado, Nissan 300ZX..........

Thats all I think of :)
