That's beacaue any self respecting pertrolhead would recognise the age from the marque/model......

Age range yes, bear in mind most span for 7 years, and have a facelift after 3/4.

But take sisters mk3 Panda. We all know its an 04 plate because its say so in my garage part of FF, but with its NI plate on, when clean you can't tell if its 5 years old or 5 days old ;)

Thing is, who is really that bothered (apart from the owner)? If you come to sell the car you need to declare its age anyway so who is going to benefit from 'hiding' the age with a different number plate? I had no idea that was one of the reasons for having one either - if that's why some people buy a private plate then my estimation of them goes down even lower.

I also find it somewhat worrying that, at the moment, more people in the poll value a 'vanity' plate that does absolutely nothing for the car's driveability (nor aesthetics for that matter) over a quality set of tyres that will improve both the roadholding and driving experience as well as safety.

Do some people really value their car's vanity above its on the road driveability?

Although some plates do look good on some cars ;)

The thing about private plates.
who put their name on it?.
it happend to me a few weeks ago.
me and my one mate was driving around and stopped next to a peugot 206cc.blond driving it.here number plate was mandy or candy can't rember.

well as my mate he thinks of funny things the whole time and hanged out the window and scream and wave her name........with her reply......."how do you know my name.".........

now sweetheart......why didn't you go with blond or dumba55 or something.

I did vote tyres until I saw its a 1.4 16v GP :p. Better off with plates or nothing.

Haha i know its only a 1.4 but to me, being only 17, it seems like an absolute f***ing rocket !!! :slayer:. Plus insurance companies want to take all my money, so i'm afraid it's as faster car as i can afford. Tyre's are pretty much the only thing my insurance company will let me do when it comes to preformance :(

:ROFLMAO: :p

I don't know if I have said this before but I do prefer private plates that are subtle and nothing like "V444 DAN" me and my sister always have a joke when we see one like that like "ho ho ho, his name must be dan!!"
I like subtle ones though, hopefully getting FTW on mine for x-mas.

I went for the private plate!
I Couldnt resist it as it was on offer. As my second name is Carlick i went for C4LKK , it was the closest i could get plus it was within my budget. My dad has C4LCK so they look good together on the drive

Clearly it should be tyres. Since you are a new-ish driver, you will want to be building your no-claims discount up. A good set of tyres will buy you precious feet of clearance if you do get into trouble, a plate will just mean the person you ran into will recognise you everywhere.

I've had many good years on Yokohama s.drive tyres. I haven't tried P.Zero (they are not made in 185/55 R14) so I couldn't possibly comment compared to them, but the Yokohamas would be a damn sight cheaper.
