Thanks Gary and Jay.

Jay, that boot mount does look good, so might look into getting one of those. (y)

The boot mount option is the one i used to go for, one reason being was that you can then run the cable being the lining/eding of your interior from back to front and keep it hidden, a little hard to do with a mag mount when you have to take it in and out of the car although it is doable.

why the hell do you wont a CB radio in your car:confused: and why do i get the feeling aload of old people are about to give me a lecture?

More likely to get a lecture regarding the comment about old people :p

When i first pub the CB in the car i was only 24/25 and had it in the car cause i used to drive from london to wakefield and back every weekend to visit the girlfriend and having the CB in the car gave me a cheap way to talk to other people on the journey (no expensive bills like there would have been on a mobile).

Plus used to help avoid traffic james as most truck drivers have CB's too and you used to get more reliable traffic reports from them than you did from the official traffic bulletins.

that's exactly why i started, i got offered one on the cheap, fitted it and never looked back, in the VW club i'm in most memebers have one so when we go off in a convoy to the seaside or what ever we can all stay in touch.

more recently i've got into ametuer radio, and use mostly the 70cm band when traveling about unless i'm with other cb'ers. as for age - i'm only 25 now(y)

in answer to the original question a roof bar mount or a boot mount would work better as far as reception for transmit/recieve with out getting technical there's more metal for the aerial to ground to on the car if it's mechanically fitted as opposed to magnetically held on.

Ta for that. Got the mast fitted today. Just got to get the Radio fitted properly in the car, and extend the antenna lead as its not long enough

A few pic's.

what is the range on these things? how cheap can you set them up with second hand parts?

Ive seen 12volt radios on ebay for around 30quid. they look REALLY old but i guess even new ones are the same thing?

reason im asking is me and a load of mates where going to buy some high power walkie talkies but they would be hard (and most likely illegal) to use while driving and even high power would have a crap range when in a metal box.

maybe this would be a better idea.

Craig

We'll my set up cost

Radio = £41

Aireal (sp?) and base = £17.50

Only thing I already had was roof rack, but you can get mag mount if you haven't one.

I also spent about another £3 on connectors to extend aireal lead.

So all in, A new set-up cost me under £65.

I'll get some pic's of it all up for you soon (y)

I'd certainly recomend using this route rather than the handheld ones, went in a convoy the other night, 4 of us, 3 with CB's, worked really well when we got split up.

Not sure on the ultimate range though, but remember will work better out in the open rather in a city like Norwich say, with big buildings and hills. lol.

Yeah, also helps being able to see car in car park, I'm thinking of getting a yellow or White mast so it stands out, although black that I've got it good as it doesn't draw to much attention.

I do get people looking then at lights etc though, its really funny. They look at car and then up and up and up lol :p

Im suprised one was never fitted to either of the sisleys Jon. do you get much interferance?

Well funny enough Craig, the 2nd Red Sisley (J-reg one that I brought, fixed and sold most recently), had CB arial mounts on the rear boot hatch, and front bullbar and all wiring in place, would have just needed Radio and arial attached and would have worked well.

Don't seem to get any interference as such, just have to fiddle with the auto squeltch as if in convoy and you loose someone, my radio seems to play up, but had a passenger who knew what they were doing who played about and got it going (y)

CB radio - happy days.
I never had much luck with mag mounts, then again, my bullwhip probably was too heavy for the huge magnet.
Then fixed it to a trunk mount & it mangled the side of the tailgate so ended up putting a ladder bar on the roof & bolting the base through the bar, made a fantastic ground plane as well. Used to run mobile with a superstar 360 & K40 power mic & a cheeky litle 500w burner for annoying the kids:D.
Still got the bullwhip in the garage and somewhere at the bottom of the junk is my old, original Krako 80ch AM rig. Was thinking about setting it up a while back (when I came across it whilst looking for something else) but I'd have needed a mount & co-ax & I really couldn't be rrrrsed.
Was really fantastic in its day though, especially for getting directions in strange towns.

Anyone from Toffeetown remember the Rourke's drift discos on Friday nights :slayer:

Hi all,

I have read this topic and i am glad to see that their are Fiat drivers that are also CB'ers !:)

Unfortunately in my 2008 Bravo Sport MJT I am experiencing interferences coming from the injection system... I had the same problem in my previous car, a 2003 Stilo JTD 115....(n)

My radio is an Albrecht AE485, i have put a line filter in the radio's power cord, this only removed the alternator. The interference from the injection system is coming through antenna...
I connected a spectrum analyzer to the antenna and i can clearly see a pulsing signal ranging from 24 to 30MHz.... Here is a small video i made : [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YljjHNFwkNc"]YouTube- Fiat Bravo engine generating QRM on 12,11 and 10m[/nomedia]

The built in NB/ANL filters of the radio almost succeed in suppressing the interference, yet weak signal are not workable while engine is on...

Did someone experience the same problem and solved it ?

Thanks for reading !:worship:
