the £200 came from a quote i had from DVLA i wanted to put the plate on retention from 2 months until my new car was ready for collection they have asked for £80 transfer fee plus £25 and then they want another £80 to transfer it to the new car.

i even have it in writing from them confirming the price, as i thought it was as you have suggested :(

according to them £80 covers a tranfers from one vehicle to another in one go, but if you want to put it onto retention you then have the fee again to transfer it to the new vehicle

You were miss informed (n)

i shalll be ringing them today because if you are correct (and i suspect you might be) i won't have to pay anything else as i've already paid the £105, when i looked it up on the net £105 was what i worked it out to be but DVLA seemed to this differant

have been thinking of putting a plate i have on retention on to my classic panda,(F1ATM but, not sure,i have H7 VKS on now, which i like because of the 7,(my daughters plate) fun seeing caterham 7 owners looking at it when coming towards me! ;-)

:worship::worship::worship: well you was right DVLA was wrong dam idiots!!
£105 is the price for 1 years retention and vehicle transfer (y)

Lol, glad you managed to get the correct information in the end.

Don't get me started on the DVLA getting their own facts and information incorrect! :p

it never ceases to amaze me how many monkey's they have working in these places and they earn a small fortune compared to some of us!!(n)
I reckon half the problem is that they don't understand their own policies and procedures...it's all written in gobbledygook lol

Depends on what they say. Some of them seem pretty pointless, things that are J587 BMW or something similar aren't 'all that' or P555 SUE for example.

We do have them in our family and to be fair, the more of them there are, I think that is a little chavvy. Our surname being Wyld means that all four of our plates spell it out with just one number difference.

My Dad's M3 has W1YLD so that looks pretty good on the car. W11 was gone so there is W111YLD on the work Navara. Step Mum's S2000 has one as do I and my brother.

Overall, I like personalised plates, for a car that hasn't had a face lift for example a cheapy can be great at hiding its age. An Audi TT (to the untrained eye) could be a Y reg or an 06 with a plate on...

bit too common now apart from the really smart ones with names.

The Stig - You have F1ATM on retention?! That has got to be worth a bomb!

Never, ever, sell that. (Well, at least not till Fiat go bankrupt ;) but I doubt that will be any time soon) In 20 years or so you will be looking at a serious price for that plate.

I saw AWE550M on a Lambo the other week. Looked really neat.

I was looking at F14 TCK, and spacing it so it reads 'F14T CK' . CK being my initials. However I think that can wait! (y)

Depends. Expensive plate on an expensive car then it's ok.

When it's a cheap plate trying to hide the fact that your eurobox is now more than 5 years old, then I would say naff.

When the plate is worth more than the car (and I've seen them): just plain embarrassing.

Since the second seem to outnumber the first by about 10 to 1 then it has to be cheap and nasty. Seems like I am in the minority then. However, it's your money.

I've seen a number plate on a nissan micra that was something like A71. Don't know much about plates but anything the only 3 digits is worth a lot more than a micra.

I was going to get a private plate, until a neighbour pointed out that my reg actually spelt out "A Yob".

I've since worked out the full meaning...

AY08 YVN - A Yob, yet very nice :D

Saw one at work a few days ago, was something like AS02 AMY, didn't look tacky...asked if it was just luck that she had it, but it wasn't lol.
