Thanks for that chris :p. na m8 love bmws (infact RWD cars in General) but the five has done 200k trouble free miles and its at a point in its life where its gonna cost me money (very soon) so it has to go. I was on the look out for a Range Rover but a m8 at work is selling the abarth as soon as he gets his new car (tomorrow fingers crossed), so i know all the history of it and he offered me it at a price that cant be ignored so here i am :)

A nice E30 M3 or 190 2.5 16 would be great. If push came to shove then Mercedes but they do also make a lot of taxis! The noise of those CLK/SL Blacks speaks directly to my soul just like the Quattroporte.

As we have both my dream cars here (E34 & W126) the W126 is horrendously rusty, full of condensation and eats fuel pumps. Having said that, my E34 is riddled with electrical problems. But the E34 gets my approval every time :D

And as for even mentioning audis in this poll, this is what I think of them...

sorry if i offend again, but this thread seems a bit of fun and thats how this post is intended.

but the fiat option, if you have the money for a merc or Bemmer..............:p:p

anyways, think this pic speaks for itself in what i'd have, bmw's are for wannabe merc owners with no taste. ;)

and yes that was mine. killed it, reversed into a table under a NO PARKING SIGN!!!

hasten to add, table was lower than boot so didn't see it or even notice it when i parked up, and it had a very strong metal frame. strong enough to put 2200 worth of damage on the car and hardly a scratch on the table. table was pressed against a wall behind the car. ooops lol

Wannabe merc owner? What absolute crap  Considering we have 2 W126's here and I am a BMW person with my E34... I own a BMW because I want to, not because its an alternative to a merc and I'm sure other BMW owners will agree. I might not be a merc man but I don't go blatently running down mercs and their owners like some merc owners in tasteless E classes that think theyre the end all be all because theyre in a merc that works. Not that theyre perfect anyway, I could go on for a while about rust, duff electrics, faulty motors, blowing turbos, oil consumption, rattling chains, faulty central locking, faulty fuel pumps, how miserably equipped some mercs are etc but I'm not that kind of person.

That sort of crap gives mercedes owners a bad name and generally theyre a lovely bunch of people (y) Just the jumped up minority that thinks theyre above everyone else because they see the 3 pointed star ruining it as usual, get a life (n)

I vote for both as my parents own a BMW & Merc which I can use when I need to. But if I bought one then a Merc Kompresser wins..

After Mrs. Beard re-styled her Stilo and the insurance company decided not to repair it we looked around for something perhaps older but more interesting. As she didn't cover a great mileage we thought that something more powerful would be ok and looked very hard at a number of Mercedes CE320-24s which we were very tempted by. This was, reputedly, one of the last of the "Panzer-build quality" Mercedes and yet (I know they were up to 20 years old) the best of them had had almost every major component replaced even though they'd covered less than 100,000 miles.

Although the engine and auto box was generally still original, they'd all had head gaskets, radiators, water pumps, fuel pumps, injectors and all sorts of other mecahanical bits and pieces. Not to mention the fact that without exception they'd all had doors, wings, bonnets and boot lids replaced due to corrosion. Not only that, but I later found out that you'd be lucky to get better than 19-21mpg out of them.

Instead we bought an '01 Alfa 156 2.0 Veloce which has so far covered over 90,000 miles and a couple of years ago took 4 adults to Nice and (obviously) back again without issue, returned 35mpg.

So for me, the question Bimmer or mercedes?? The answer has to be Alfa Romeo.

Here's my old 320

As entered in the 2009 PPC £999 Challenge. Bloody Hell it was slow and I'm hoping this hears Panda will beat the 16.3 second quarter mile time it set.

Still a great laugh to drive though and is still on the road today in "Gulf" racing colours.

None of the Kraut cars are any good anymore; the have degenerated to slick trick gadgets and build quality of the 1976 Dodge Dart!! My Fiat 500 is my hop around town car; the Bentley Turbo coupe is a real road car.

BMW and MB are a commoners car now; they used to be a country club car - now they can be found in the employee parking lot of every Wal Mart in Mississippi!!! lmao

I'm strongly biased to Fiat only but after that it's definitely a Merc for me; more distinctive and without the image generated by BMW (and Audi) drivers.

I'm not familiar with the image of BMW and Audi drivers in mainland UK but here in N. Ireland they've a bad reputation; though I'm sure it a similar situation in England too. I rarely see an Audi or BMW keep a safe distance or use an indicator, I think indicators must be an optional extra on Audis that their owners are too tight to pay for.:D

About a year ago I saw a 7 series driver at the local Sprucefield Sainsbury's garage attempt to put air into a tyre using the water hose! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: He realised something wasn't quite right and then proceeded to refer to the handbook in the glovebox before giving up and driving away. You couldn't have made it up. :ROFLMAO:Ahhhh:tosser: Who are these people???!! What made this better was his wife and kids were in the car too so he must have really felt like a complete inadequate.:D

Lets not forget too about the sheer quantity of Audis and BMs parked sideways over two or even more carparking spaces, a common sight especially by X5s and A8s etc.

Bentley Turbo coupé :ROFLMAO: Footballers car.
I think you're a bit out of date with that assessment. I have dealings with both Manchester United and City. The Range Rooney is still very popular among the kick-a-bag-o-wind players nowadays but Lamborghinis, Ferraris and AMG G-Wagens are typically the order of the day in the Premier League.

I think it's a lot down to Mr. Clarkson that the image of the Bentley Continental is quite low in the eyes of many. I've driven several (although none of them have been mine) and I found it a delightful thing. Whether W12 or V8, they go very, very well, are comfortable all the time and seem to be reliable.

As they get older they will keep on coming down in price, in fact there are a few on the market for around £25-30K which is new BMW 3-Series money.

3-Series motors are now more common than Mondeos and are quite widely ignored (except by those striving to have a bigger office and a designated space in the staff car park, yet the Bentley still attracts envious glances like few others. Although, in fairness, it probably attracts hate equal measure.
