Did you tell your insurance company when you modded your car?

I am thinking of lowering my Stilo, but I am scared of how much it would increase my premiums. ;)

I would as you never know!
Some insurance companies are only interested in engine mods, not really worried even if you spend £10,000 on body mods

only added a CD changer & speakers so its not worth the aggro.

if it gets nicked they only cost £150! & if i need to have it inspected it takes 10 mins to get the cd changer out.

i didn't to begin with, when i was with NUD but they load the premium by 10% per mod with a maximum of 3 mods allowed, now that i am with HIC i can do anything i want except put an extra 10bhp to the wheels.

donz im with hic and although you're right that they are really good you still originally pay more for being modified. for instance i pay 500 for my cinq valued 2k and for a seat arosa 16v sport group 5 valued 3500 they only wanted about 40quid more. anyway cant argue with 500 insurance on a modified car!!

if you can afford a stilo im assuming your not a teenager so just tell em it cant cost that much more! did you tell them about your wheels? or were they standard?

The car is actually insured in my girlfriends name, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I have no NCD as I have been driving a Series 3 Land Rover for quite a long time. As this is on a classic car policy, it doesn't collect NCD. Secondly, what with her being a bird, she is apparently a better and safer driver than me (a bloke), so the insurance is cheaper. (Dispite the fact I have been driving nearly 3 times as long as she has, without incident.)

When we were getting quotes for the car, several of the companies wanted to know about extras, whether they be factory fitted or not. Tescos were the worst. They wouldn't simply value the car at the price we paid for it. You have to tell them everything about the car and every item adds to the premium, so when we added the wheels, air con, metallic paint, the premium just shot up, so we hung up on them.

We are currently with Eagle Star and they have been very good so far. We told them about the optional extras and as they were factory fitted, they were happy and it didn't effect the premium.

Saga? You're joking aren't you? They wanted £184 for my Panda, as opposed to £124 with the AA (fully comp.); peanuts I know in comparison with what you're paying. It seems to me that being 50 is classed as a young driver with Saga :(

Can someone tell us an insurance company that doesn't increase premiums for body mods. I'm with Endsleigh and has increased my prems by quite a bit. God it's only a f.ucking MS Design bodykit for Seicento....

thanks

my car has and is gettin more body mods, has blacked out windows(alot are fussy on that), lowered suspension, gettin alloys, and they accept all this, no premium increase :D and i always thought Mainland UK got it easiest.
