Animal testing

If you know a product has been tested on animals does it stop you from buying it?

Sadly it's exactly what the animal right activists would have you believe, I have a very good friend who recently gave up their job in the labs because they couldn't cope seeing the pain involved in testing these products on animals. That's why i have made the poll to see what other people think about it.

you didnt specify comestics or medicines, if it's comestics then imo its a bit more of a dodgy area, but if it's medicines that are going to save human lives then there is no question in it.

i have a real problem with animal rights terrorists, they go to such lengths to torture people who work in labs.. but hang on a second, aren't humans animals too? damn hypocrits.

it was a lab testing comestics and cleaning products....

i understand what your saying about the animal rights activists and you mention that "some go to such lengths to torture people who work in labs"
i personly have not heard any stories of this happening for a long time though so unless it was in the news recently and i missed it i don't think that argument has any relevance. And also looking at things from the animals view, they ARE being tortured everyday of there sad and short lives.

I don't want to get into an argument about the subject or our different views , I am just curiouse to how ppl feel about the subject, but i do think it is important to look at it from both view points before making a decision...

i say test some products and stuff on rapists, paedophiles, murderers etc?

the amount of damage and harm they cause some people.. and cause them to miss some important parts of there life, they should get damage back to them for it

i'm not argueing, but i do think you are naive if you think it is black and white and will 'make a decision' on a subject like this.

i can't think of anything recent, of course these days terrorists have beards and blow up planes don't they.

Nobody mentioned testing on an obvious group - CHAVS! It makes sense as then for the first times in their lives they'd actually be contributing something to society

On a serious note, animal testing for life saving drugs and treatment/ medication, then yes I would agree with it under strict conditions and regulations. However, testing simply for new cleaning products of which plenty already exist then no, and absolutely no for cosmetics. We've enough of those already and the only reason companies want new products is to make money from a new product line. This is not for the benefit of the people, it's for the benefit of the shareholders :tosser:

I do wish we could live in a world where we didn't have to use animal testing for anything, though that's unlikely to happen :(

yeah ... just watch otu as some companies test pet food on animals in a way you wouldn't expect:yuck::mad:

we feed our dog on Burns, which a relation recommended, it seems to fair well in their tests, also it works well with our dog, and works out a little bit cheaper than the competition! can't complain.

the problem with these sites is they make out some carp excuses as to why we should all be denyed meat.(n)

my friend brought a weak abandoned Lamb home and kept it in it's house till it was strong enough to go back to the farm. really funny seeing a lamb running round an immaculate house lol. it liked being stroked too don't know what happened to that one, probably was sunday lunch:devil:. hasn't put me off meat at all i can live with the fluffynuss cos it tastes good! as long as there's no unneccessary cruelty i'll happily eat meat, though i can't always afford to be choosey in my situation!

Well , as an answer to the original question , i believe that things aren't as simple as they seem to be.I study molecular biology(almost at degree) and i'll have to agree with brum brum about the fact that animal testing MUST be obligatory when making drugs and medicines. It can't be done any other way. Also , the reaction of an animal and humans after the use of a drug isn't necessarily different. Usually , it's very much related. But in order for a new drug to be released in the market it passes a long year testing on humans period(with the number of humans being "used" increasing by the years). So , if we want medicines , we'll have to accept animal testing. That's a fact.
As a person , i really love animals(I've had many, now a cat) and I needed a really long period to accept this fact. Now, turning to cosmetics it's a totally different theme. Personally , I hate the idea of animal abuse for ''beauty'' products. It's stupid. But , again aren't I the man who is very attracted from a well "painted" woman? Do I live in a society that absorbs cosmetic products like gold??Tough questions to answer...When a new cosmetic product is designed , it can't be let out for human use right away!Would you like a creme that may destroy your skin?would you ever buy it , if you didn't have the reassurance that it's safe??
So , it's a shame of us(humans , who are also animals as pre said , but "superior" in an evolution way) to abuse animal lifes and rights in order to look or dress(I believe that fur producers should be killed) in a more pretty way. I'd love to live in a better world , where a woman wouldn't have to use products appart from her natural beauty to be attractive.I love women who don't need to get prepared for 1 or 2 hours to get out. But , that's not where I live.
As a result(of this tiring answer) I'll vote against animal testing. But that's not enough. We have to change many many things and parameters of our way of life , in order for it to stop.
THE KILLING OF ANIMALS FOR USELESS REASONS(like making fur , having some kind of sadistic "fun" , making sofas or sack-voyages etc) IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE(n)
