Most Un-reliable car ever?

Lancia Y10 more specifically Y10Turbo!

Excellent choice - but then who actually bothered with a service every 6 months? Not entirely the car's fault.

The clincher must be the complete unavailability of parts - so when it packs in there is sod all you can do! At least when a ford dies there is a chance of getting it back on the road.

But the regular Y10s are the opposite - ultra reliable. My old one never failed once - despite never getting a service, and running on old oil drained out of other people's cars! It ran reliably up to the day the tailgate rusted off.

My Cinq.

In 6 months of ownership...2 months have been off the road :(
One was for engnie swap, the other one was waiting for parts so it'll pass the MOT, and thats subject to another week or two so I can get the car tested!!

Re: Found On Roadside Ditches!

1979 Ford Fiesta 950 Pop - Bloody engine fell out when I got to a set of lights once! I took great delight in taking a very large sledgehammer to that!! Also sadly my Alfa 33 - clutch, gearbox, head gaskets, 4wd electronics, locks and just about every single suspension bush all in the space of a couple of months. Was still very very sorry to see it go, if Fiat (still) made cars that were as amazing to drive as that, there would be no Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, GM etc...

In my experience I would have to say either every Ford or every red car. I know neither make sense, but I won't be having either again, if I can help it. Overall I would say the least reliable car ever built was the Triumph TR7.

Yeah i have had two red cars and they have both rubbish in terms of reliability. My cinq will always get me home but needs continual attention and repair to keep it running properly.

I agree the TR7 is pretty bad, but your forgetting the TR6 and lucas mechanical fuel injection :(

88 Citroen BX 16v or 84 Polo 1.0 from personal experience.

I had a 91 h-reg BX GTI 16v & it was the most reliable car I've ever owned.
Funnily enough the most unreliable car I've had was a 1.4lx mk4 escort, now I know why they call 'em Dagenham dustbins. ;)

Wasn't actually my car, but my parents' old Daewoo Nexia was a heap of s**t, everything went wrong... brakes stopped working, aircon spent most of the time broken, head gasket went, gearbox linkage went leaving me with nothing but 4th and 5th... F***ing pile of Korean w**k!

The Punto's been a pain in the arse too (gearbox, head, brakes, suspension... ), but it gets let off because unlike the Daewoo its got a bit of character and actually looks half decent :D

dont put me off a punto :( there great, my sisters selecta has been nothing but an excellent realiable car, broke down once and wrecked engine but i think that might slightly of been the fact that the car had run out of oil   but most realiable car i have ever know is a seat marbella, my mums old one ran for 5 YEARS not having a service (chain driven too so no cambelt) or anything (well odd oil filter change but thats it) and never broke down and always passed mot.
and now on to most unrealiable and it is nissan micra 1985 one :yuck: my sisters old car, she got it scrapped after few months she had had enough, breaks failed and a window fell off on motor way!!! and more cant be bothered to list

i have to pick from 2!

a X reg Renault 5, in hand painted bright green! (y), which need so much doing to it from the day we bought it, and ended up with it going away to have a whole new zorst fitted, only to be told, they couldnt fit it, as there was no solid metal underneath to attach it to :p

and a M reg Punto 55 Selecta, which had many problems with the gear box, horrible paint quality, and rear suspension which just decided to fail while going over a speed bump :(

was scary when it was on the ramp. you could move the whole wheel to and fro

the SERIN consolation prize goes to our old C reg Panda 45, which was brilliant, and tottaly reliable...Until the enigine blew up!

Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo. Owned for about 2 years. Off the road for over 9 months, on 3 separate occassions. Though the last one may not entirely be the car's fault...

Most unreliable was a 1984 Austin Maestro 1.6 HLS. Absolute horror story that would take up multiple sides of A4 to describe exactly what went wrong in just four months. It was T-boned at London Bridge in August 1994 and I was never so glad to see a car mashed. The only good thing about it was I got more from the insurance than I paid for the car/ heap.

Most reliable was a 1982 Ford Cortina 2.0 litre Ghia. Let me down once in four years and 35K miles but it had done 157,000 miles so I guess I could forgive it that.

My 1986 Fiat Uno 45S has also been utterly reliable in the past two years I've had it from 66K to 77K, and still going strong. Only another 23K to go to beat my mileage in the Cortina!

Just a bit of clarity, you can't blame a car for being unrealiable when you have either bought a car that has been treated badly in the first place (Serin) or you have forgotten to service it at the suggested service periods (it's not the cars fault that your forgetful).

i noticed someone said lada, but i have owned three ladas and they have never broken down (but the samara i have now, has snapped a shocker whilst driving).

try driving a tipo with the digital dash, and the dash stops working on the M1 whilst doing 90 mph.

True but say if the same model etc had the same problem would you put it down to it being a fact, coincidence, or everyone being forgetful :p
