Re: Do you smoke/allow smoking in your car?

I dont allow people to smoke in my, its a minging habit.

You can get done by the police for smoking if you are swerving etc. Driving without due care and attention. Light a fag at the wheel for the same thing afaik. Depends how far they want to push it i suppose

Re: Do you smoke/allow smoking in your car?

I used to smoke/ allow smoking in my car but not since I quit smoking in December 2006. I'm now 15 months fag free

As a result I don't allow others to smoke in my car now because A: it might tempt me to have one and B: it does make the car stink. I now have a better sense of smell so would rather my car not smell of stale smoke. Plus I don't want ash everywhere and the risk of burn holes from dropped hot rocks!

However, I have no problems with being in someone elses car where people do smoke. That's their choice and their property, and it's my choice as to whether I go in their car or not.

I totally disagree. I smoked and drove for over 15 years and never once did smoking a cigarette cause any problems with my driving. Using a mobile phone in comparison was hugely distracting and I quite agree with banning their use while driving. Smoking is (was in my case) second nature, you do it almost subconciously hence one of the reasons it is hard to quit. Using a phone on the other hand (no pun intended!) requires you to think for each and every call. You have to think about what is being said and what you are saying, plus physically have to operate/ hold the phone.

Can't say my driving is any different since quitting ciggies though I do need to shed the stone I gained in weight...

But that can be said from having a conversation with a passenger too

very much same scenario when lifting a cheek to pass wind... can prove deadly, especially if a lit cig hits the floor too!!

I dont smoke myself... but load of people i know do.. so doesnt bother me if someone in the car as a passenger smokes...

Re: Do you smoke/allow smoking in your car?

NEVER ALLOW SMOKING IN MY CAR

even tho iam a very heavy smoker i will not allow it in my car, couple of years ago way before i passed my test i was in my mates car in the back seat behind him and he was smoking while driving anyway as he finished he threw the cig out the window and the wind blew it back through my side window and hit me in the face, got a nasty burn out of it inches form my eye.. witch cant be said for my fist in his eye.....

so i will never allow smoking in my car for load of reasons but the main reason is as said...

That is true, though for some reason I find I need to concentrate far harder when chatting on a phone than when chatting to someone sitting right next to me.

Josh, have you ever smoked and driven? Can you speak from experience? As I mentioned above, I smoked and drove for 15 years, all year round, in all weathers/ conditions, windows opened and closed and never had any issues. And if you drop anything (not just a cigarette) you'd have to be a complete moron to bend down and look for it whilst driving. That's when you pull over to the side of the road and stop the car first

Still, I'm glad I gave up

Re: Do you smoke/allow smoking in your car?

Yes and yes, but not in the back as there's no ashtray and it's a lot harder to
flick the dog end out. Having a rear seat passenger is very useful for that occasional butt that comes back in. Ideally they will be yawning which means there won't even any ash in the back.
More dangerous than using a phone? Yup. What about taking a CD out of the glove box, then out of its case and putting it in the player? Not forgetting taking the other one out of the head unit, putting it back in its case, then back in the glove box.
Most dangerous thing you can do in a car is have children with you.

Re: Do you smoke/allow smoking in your car?

i smoke but never in my car or house or a confined or enclosed place. no one else can smoke in my car either. included in the forbidden list is eating, drinking, biting your nails, picking your nose, touching the glass, touching the stereo, commenting on my driving style or speed, suggesting a different route and definately no children under 8 unless their arms and legs are bound and they are gagged. breaking the rules results in walking, although a first offence can sometimes be dealt with by a simple slap and warning, especially if you're very sorry. no one has made it to a second offence yet, i guess the first time is a lesson well learnt.
