you what? how is it in any way like being on the phone :confused:

i have my hands on the wheel for most the time and my smoking hand only leaves the wheel for a matter of seconds... its more like changing fricking gear!! and dont tell me you constantly have both your hands on the wheel! cos thats clearly a lie... no one does.

cant see why people are so against it.. its my car tbh.

i've seen you smoke and drive though

you weave :)

weaving and smoking and texting an trying to drive at same time :nono:

I smoke and i allow smoking in my car.

However, i do agree that should be made illegal, its not how long you have your hands on the wheel or anything like that, its more a case of the dangers if the smoke gets in your eyes or dropping the cigarette and people panicking to try and find it, thats where the real danger lies.

Smoke, Smoke in car and let other. If you smoke, why not.....to tempting to just spark up. My dad moans about my car when i open the door says he can smell it a mile off. Smoking in the back is now banned. Have 3 hot rock holes in my seats :(

Dettol spray + Open Windows + 30mph + 3minutes = Car thats smells brand new.

Only thing that should be legal is the actual lighting. Only time you take eyes of road and hand of wheel at the same time

things like this used to really bug me, but now couldn't give a monkeys TBH, doesnt bother me.. its got an ashtray and a lighter socket for a reason.. and ive got more important things to worry about lol!

I don't have an ashtray or lighter socket in my car... You have to pay extra these days for a smoking kit. Lol.

I don't smoke and wouldn't let anyone smoke in my car.

Have to laugh at my neighbours - They open their back door and stand there to smoke. I'm sure their kitchen stinks still the same. :yuck:

I don't have people smoking in car just because i cant stand the smell of it plus i dont want my car smelling of it.

I dont allow people to smoke in my, its a minging habit.

You can get done by the police for smoking if you are swerving etc. Driving without due care and attention. Light a fag at the wheel for the same thing afaik. Depends how far they want to push it i suppose

I used to smoke/ allow smoking in my car but not since I quit smoking in December 2006. I'm now 15 months fag free :slayer:

As a result I don't allow others to smoke in my car now because A: it might tempt me to have one and B: it does make the car stink. I now have a better sense of smell so would rather my car not smell of stale smoke. Plus I don't want ash everywhere and the risk of burn holes from dropped hot rocks!

However, I have no problems with being in someone elses car where people do smoke. That's their choice and their property, and it's my choice as to whether I go in their car or not.

to be honest, i dont think it should be legal to smoke whilst driving a car, its just as bad as being on a phone

I totally disagree. I smoked and drove for over 15 years and never once did smoking a cigarette cause any problems with my driving. Using a mobile phone in comparison was hugely distracting and I quite agree with banning their use while driving. Smoking is (was in my case) second nature, you do it almost subconciously hence one of the reasons it is hard to quit. Using a phone on the other hand (no pun intended!) requires you to think for each and every call. You have to think about what is being said and what you are saying, plus physically have to operate/ hold the phone.

Can't say my driving is any different since quitting ciggies though I do need to shed the stone I gained in weight...

But that can be said from having a conversation with a passenger too :)

lit cig in car, gust of wind or slight loss of concentration on cigarette, cig on floor or seat, or in pants, woops, bend down looking for it, all over the road ;)

very much same scenario when lifting a cheek to pass wind... can prove deadly, especially if a lit cig hits the floor too!!:p

I dont smoke myself... but load of people i know do.. so doesnt bother me if someone in the car as a passenger smokes...

NEVER ALLOW SMOKING IN MY CAR

even tho iam a very heavy smoker i will not allow it in my car, couple of years ago way before i passed my test i was in my mates car in the back seat behind him and he was smoking while driving (n) anyway as he finished he threw the cig out the window and the wind blew it back through my side window and hit me in the face, got a nasty burn out of it inches form my eye.. witch cant be said for my fist in his eye.....

so i will never allow smoking in my car for load of reasons but the main reason is as said...:yuck:

That is true, though for some reason I find I need to concentrate far harder when chatting on a phone than when chatting to someone sitting right next to me.

Josh, have you ever smoked and driven? Can you speak from experience? As I mentioned above, I smoked and drove for 15 years, all year round, in all weathers/ conditions, windows opened and closed and never had any issues. And if you drop anything (not just a cigarette) you'd have to be a complete moron to bend down and look for it whilst driving. That's when you pull over to the side of the road and stop the car first

Still, I'm glad I gave up :)
