Firstly just want to say hi! got my 100HP couple of weeks ago and absolutely loving it :) Does anyone know if I remove the standard stereo and replace it with a decent one if the bluetooth phone kit will still work?

I've thought about this to, but as I am not an ICE fan requiring a pin sharp sound experience I'll wait until the current radio/CD packs in before I look to change it.

As for bluetooth - I have two phones paired with it so far and both work fine - even with voice activation.

I would think it would depend on the new head unit you are thinking of whether a replacement would work or not - but I may be wrong.

Oh, and welcome to the growing band of 100HP owners.

Something from Fiat I read made a point of saying it was independant so you had the freedom to change.

I was told the bluetooth system plugs in to the stereo, but if your looking for something aftermarket you'll need a facia thing like in the older pandas as the new ones are double size. And a headunit compatible with the bluetooth and steering controls.

It only plugs into the stereo in the same way any phone kit talks to any headunit ie it has a connection for muting and output for sound. Because of the extra features offered to Sony Ericsson phones I would guess it's an OEM version of one of theirs in the same way the headunit is an OEM Blaupunkt.

I believe there are wheel button adaptors available for the Panda that will let it talk to headunits that can be controlled in that way.

but its no good getting a headunit that does none of the above.
Personally (old man mode on) I think the standard unit suits the dash and offers good sound quality, Which is why I'm leaving mine in, when Fiat eventually have the correct Mp3 unit in stock to exchange with mine

Not sure what your point is then, just anout any headunit will work fine with the phone and steering wheel controls for volume and skip would be a personal preference!

Anyway I like the standard one for much the same reasons as yourself and I'm glad you finally accepted you had the wrong head unit and have had a go at them for it.

Quote from Fiat's press release that I mentioned...

The system automatically lowers the volume of the radio, and allows occupants to hear the caller through the stereo loudspeakers. An integral, echo-cancellation device maintains sound quality without any deterioration in timbre, thus preventing unpleasant, metallic tones. Moreover, the Bluetooth system is operable not only in the presence of a radio, but also when only the wiring is installed, hence retaining radio unit choice for the customer.

Actually this is useful to know.

Mainly because when i come to buy a 100hp (boyfriend still needs convincing and is threatening me with an aygo). One of the first things i will do is change the radio.

Its not because i want thumping bass or anything like that. I currently have a DVD head unit which allows me to fit my entire CD music collection on two DVDs (thats 180 albums).. so obviously going back to just a CD player is more than i can take.

It would be useful for me to be able to use the bluetooth unit in isolation if possible. I am pretty sure my head unit isn't bluetooth compatible, though i'd need to check.

hmmm unfortunately my head unit isn't blue tooth compatible.. (just checked).

I think i'd rather lose the functionality of bluetooth than put up with just a CD player as i just don't answer the phone whilst driving (well not since they started giving you point for it).
