Skydome on Panda 100HP

Hiya,

Can anyone confirm if the Skydome (that is what it's called, isn't it?) robs any headroom in the Panda?

Also, does it add much additional windnoise?

Is it manual opening, or electric?

The dealer didn't have one for me to have a look at...so I assumed someone would know.

Cheers,

It doesn't.

Only when opened.

Electric. Unfortunately, it doesn't warn you when you turn off the car, so you'll better remember closing it before a big storm.

I have a normal Panda, by the way, but the Skydome should be the same.

Excellent...
And is it good to have, in your view?

I do miss a glass sunroof (my current car's sunroof is solid metal) as I miss the light...the Skydome is massive...so it must be very light?
Comments?

And I'm assuming no more so than on any other sunroof equipped car?

Does it tilt as well as slide back?
Or only slide back?

Might be a silly question...I've never seen one..or even seen any good pics of it.

Ahh...i'm used to that though.
A pain, isn't it?

I'm sure it will be. Thanks for the comments...

Re: Skydome on Panda 100HP

It's definitely worth it. It makes driving feel more like riding a train. I mean, it lessens that feeling of being stuck in a small metal box. (Does this make sense?)

I don't know how the noise compares to other sunroofs. The noise gets uncomfortable at about 50mph. That's with the Skydome completely opened, slid back over the "sunroof" in the back (which doesn't open, by the way). You can also tilt it.

There are two pics of it on the FIAT site:

Re: Skydome on Panda 100HP

I really like the Skydome. It turns the interior of the car into a bright airy space. Comes with two sunblinds you slide back. It's expensive, it's heavy, and it might go wrong, but it really lifts the car interior and gives a bit of luxury.

Looks nice when polished.... With it in the tilt position allows more air into the car from the dash vents without needing the fan on, so if you don't get aircon, it's a nice option to keep you a bit cooler as global warming bites.

Also nice in the summer as you can park with it tilted open, and pretend nobody will steal your car by climbing in through the sunroof.

Re: Skydome on Panda 100HP

I have ordered my 100hp with a skydome.
Unfortunatley it won't arrive until next month but I will take some pics when it gets here.

my only regret about buying the eleganza was not ordering skydome, esp after seeing the massive diff it makes to the interior lighting

Thumbs up Re: Skydome on Panda

SkyDome highly recommended - I definitely would not have bought a Panda without one! Makes it really light and bright, although I haven't actually had it open very often! Has blinds which you can slide across if it's really hot! (It doesn't tilt though - just slides back over the rear fixed glass.)

Horses for courses I guess but I like the cocooned feel, then again some freaks like convertibles!

As the 100HP has climate control you'd never have reason to open it.

Additional weight and in the very top of the car? Don't think I like sunshine that much!

Re: Skydome on Panda 100HP

My Eleganza had one and it was fanatstic. However the two downsides were very noisy at high speeds and it had an annoying little rattle that I never could cure! But, if I had another new Panda I would definately have the skydome, it just totally lifts the interior. As for the weight, I dont see it makes any difference, if youre that bothered about weight saving then diet!!

Re: Skydome on Panda 100HP

Thanks for the comments folks...

I like a sunroof even with air con...I like the fresh air and the light...so it's an option for sure.

There seem to be conflicting reports though...does it tilt, or not?

And there are two blinds, one for each...but that can rattle. Sems par for the course as far as sunroofs go!

I'm tempted...but I think i'll need to drive and Panda model with the sunroof to see if the noise is OK or not...I don'r mind the wind noise as long as I can turn the music up and drown the wind noise out...as long as the buffetting isn't so bad it makes your ears bleed!

If you press the button, it'll first tilt and it stops. This first step only opens an inch or so of the back side of the Skydome. The front remains closed completely. If you want it to open, you press the button again and then it'll slide.

I have no rattle noises (yet) and I've never noticed the "extra weight at the top", but I always thought that reports about how the Panda tilts in curves were highly exaggerated.

Superb! I was hoping that was the case...
For 500 it's not worth leaving off the final spec...

I paid significantly more for 2 rear tyres only a few months ago...so the SkyDome seems pretty good value.
