"A new breed of Panda will be making its UK public debut at MPH06, which opens at the NEC, Birmingham on Thursday 26 October, and then in London’s Earls Court on Thursday 2 November..........

At £9,995 on the road in the UK, the new Panda 100HP, ‘flagship’ of a revised 2007 Panda range, represents a highly competitive package, with rivals being generally less powerful, less well equipped and more expensive. Panda 100HP will go on sale in the UK during December"

£9,995

That's quite a premium over the current most expensive Panda, £835 in fact over the 1.3 Multijet Sporting. This doesn't seem to reflect the European prices, but then again more options are likely to be standard over here.

Think I will have to strike it from my Christmas list though...

There'd have to be! Wonder what FIATSupasaver will be able to do?

As an aside, still unable to find out what the 100Hp weighs. Hope it hasn't put on too much weight.

Not sure what the 1.2 Panda weighs but here is info on the Sport:

"With a modest kerb weight of 1015kg, Fiat Auto’s latest addition to the Panda range possesses lively performance, with 0 – 62mph acceleration in 9.5s and a maximum speed of 115mph, while still offering economical fuel consumption (43.4mpg in the combined cycle) and modest (154g/km CO2) emissions."

Duh! Should have read it properly shouldn't I?

1015kg is massive! The 1.2 is 860kg, the diesel 935kg. What has it got inside it, gold fittings?

I am presuming that this is the new improved 2007 Panda.

Given that the current one only has 3 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test rating, I would hope that the extra weight is more stuff they have added to try and bring it in line with more modern 5 star designs.

I noticed a story on the BBC about how Fiat had left off some bit on the RHD Grande Punto's which renders them as 4 stars, and not the 5 stars that they are currently being advertised with. You don't suppose they left off the equivalent bit on the Panda do you?

The bits left off the Grande Punto were left off by accident, not by design.
It seems quite a weight gain for the new Panda :(

Good point, I suppose the 100Hp is the first of the MY2007 Pandas to be announced. May be we'll see all the range putting on a bit of puppy fat. But I wonder, can a car the size of a Panda ever get anywhere near a 5 star rating? Surely there just'nt isnt the metal ahead of you (or to the side of you) or is it graded to the size of the vehicle? If two 5 star cars are a 1000kg supermini and the other is a 2000kg 4x4 surely you aren't as safe in the lighter car? So many questions! :) But yes, it should be nearer the 4 star of the Citroen C1, say.

The Yaris, Clio and new Corsa get 5 stars. Even a Hyundai Getz has more stars than the Panda, so I would hope that the MY2007 models pay more than passing attention to the issue.

On the other hand, people who drive those sort of cars are very likely to do so in a hat - you know the type. Always beware of people driving in hats (whatever the hat) is my moto......

motor authority think diffrent:

"Overall weight has been kept to around 850kgs despite the inclusion of luxury items such as leather upholstery and upmarket stereo."

so who's got it right...........

Well according to this, in "poids en ordre de march" the 100Hp is 1050Kg! The Multijet is shown as up to 1084Kg, while the 1.2 remains a sylphlike 860Kg. Then again, I'm not sure if this list isn't a mix of 2006 and 2007 models.

Or people with travel rugs on the parcel shelf, another bad sign...

When I was running up and down the M6/74 all the time I used to wear a hat, mind you i was driving a M.A.N., and pulling up to 40 ton. As for the travel rug, yep I had one and a sleeping bag also. I can assure you, you only need to get stuck in a snow drift once.

As for the new Panda's weight, might it be ballast for road holding, and to stop that annoying wheel spin you get, well with the Spoting anyway???.

Not many snow drifts between 'Dunroamin' and the Post Office on pension day though, eh? ;) Respect for steering a M.A.N. though; too may car drivers just don’t give HGVs any consideration.

Just thinking, if you were to take the spare out of the 100Hp, you might just get it below my psychological barrier of 1000kg…
