Is there a correct way of running this. What does the Auto button do, saying that why does the temp reading flash when you turn auto off. Also the frost sign button? , why does that come on when you press auto:confused:

What am i doing wrong?

I don't have a Panda, but i suspect it's quite similar to the climate control in my Stilo, so i'll have a go:

The Auto button does just what it says, it puts the system in AUTO mode starting the compressor for cooling and adjusting air speed and where to put the air (feet, windscreen or out the middle), all you have to do is choose which temp. you want.
The reason the temp reading is flashing is because you have turned the compressor off and the chosen temp. inside the car is lower than the outside. The flashing is the system telling you: "Hey I can't give you a lower temp. than outside because you have turmed off the compressor (for cooling the air)".
The frost sign button is the compressor (for cooling the air), it comes on when you press Auto because you're telling the system to handle everything, and it does this by turning on the compressor to be able to control the temp.

I hope it makes sense (y)

:D yes i did, didn't seem that clear.

Yep, Santa's post covers most of it. The Panda climate control like a lot of the stuff on the car is pretty 'smart' and on mine works really well. It doesn't start heating mode on cold days until the engine has warmed up slightly, it seems to compare the outside air temp with that in the car and doesn't start the compressor until it needs too, so if the outside air is 21C and you dial in 21C inside the car the system uses mainly outside air. It appears to redirect air to face or footwell vents dependng on some theory which is a complete mystery to me, but the car is always at a comfortable temp. The 'Frost' button is just Fiats way of indicating the climate control is on.

Compared to the climate control on my old RAV4 the Panda is superior in as much as it seems to not dry the air out so much. On a long 800 mile trip back from Spain in the Toyota my skin felt like cardboard afterwards, in the Panda I'm always comfortable with the climate control on.

So it stays on.
