47mpg average at this stage after 4000miles, not too happy, expected mid 50's for a 75bhp 1220cc engine this is for normal driving, any comments >

75HP,1220cc? are we talking Pandas here? mine is 70HP, 1248cc.
And what is normal driving? My normal is 10% town 40% country, 50% faster roads on long journeys, with a natural inclination to drive very frugally. Overall real average is a smidgin under 65mpg over 12000 miles, and that includes around 2500 towing a 250kg trailer.

Driving Instructor 11570m in 13 weeks all manor of people driving it, up hills down dales on 70mph dual roads, hours of parking and talking, lots of start stop but the little gal still manages 56mpg on the dash display, did go to a friends over xmas 2 adults 2 kids, in lincolnshire drove at all speed limits but not hard footed and when we arrived 76miles later it had done 70.2 mpg, not a bad tool i might say Alan.

After reading the comments from Bogman, one thing I would say is dont put your faith in that little computer.......IT CAN, AND DOES TELL LIES.
Best thing to do is to work out your mpg the good old tried and tested way.

One other thing i found out that drops the mpg on the Panda is tyre pressures, I noticed our mpg dropping, and wondered why?. Reason was good lady had not been checking tyre pressures, all 4 were down by about 5psi. Put tyre pressure back to the proper 32psi front and 26psi rear and in no time mpg was back up.

Had my panda 3 weeks now and just finished my first tank of fuel. I have refilled and put in 31 ltrs. So after my calculations i have to say my trip computer seems to under estimate slightly. My ave cons. by trip is 61mpg yet after my maths it works out at 63mpg. I will continue my tests....

Here is a question for you.... I just had four new tyres put on the car and this morning i found that the continuous mpg read out showed lower figure than normal. Do you think the fitters put the wrong pressure in the new treads or is it that now i have more grip i am going to use more fuel?
