Hi

I have just had my clutch replaced and now have a problem if anyone can advise please.
When starting the car from cold I have the oil light on for about 6 seconds and the engine sounds fine but after the 6 seconds the oil light goes off and there is a swishing noise this noise goes away when the engine is warm.

This definitely didn’t happen before clutch was replaced.

Thanks

Thanks for reply
The noise is hard to explain wizzing noise it’s not a knocking noise or a bearing rumble. Yes the oil level is fine. When the noise seams to stop I have used a screwdriver as a listening tool and it seams to be coming from sump. I’m thinking possibly oil pump but how has this happened with the car having a clutch replacement.

I guess the First thing to do is to log the faults with the garage that changed the clutch.

if they have caused the faults, they should repair them free of charge

Had a few issues with the garage and tried to sort them out but let’s just say I saw a different side of him so won’t be going back there.

the First thing to check is the oil pressure switch

Do you have a multi meter ?

obviously if the oil pressure isn't there you will be damaging the engine

the switch only has one terminal

Check its plugged in properly ?

disconnect the connector and measure the resistance from the switches terminal to battery negative. While observing the resistance start the car.

report back the values and how quickly it changes

Ok thanks I have a multimeter with ohm setting which setting shall I use I have 2k 20k 200k or 2m?

Could this be caused by clutch replacement or simply just a coincidence?

2K range

not a big believer in coincidences. They do happen.

I can't see a connection between the clutch and oil pressure. Shouldn't even need to touch the turbo or its plumbing for a clutch change.

need to concentrate on the oil pressure First.

the light is computer controlled. First we need to check if it really has low pressure at start up. Hence testing the switch directly first.

Thanks I will test the switch, no the oil hasn’t been changed as for the earth strap I’m sure it’s on but will double check.

Have you checked the heat exchanger under the oil filter housing/oil filler pipe?

They are prone to leaking and it might be causing a bit or aeration which is why the oil pressure sensor is lit up at cold start.

I haven’t I will check that thanks

Key off 0.00-0.01

Key on mar before starting 0.36 dropping down by 0.01 each reading until it got down to 0.26 then I started the engine

When started 1.90, 0.88, 0.24, 0.17, 0.14, 0.08, -0.03, -0.01, -0.04, -0.09, -0.13, -0.17, -0.13, -0.17, -0.22, -0.25, -0.30, -0.31, -0.30. -0.31, .0.29, -0.28, -0.26, -0.25, -0.24, -0.23, -0.22, -0.21, -0.20, -0.19, -0.18 then 1.

When it stayed on 1. That’s when the winning noise starts.

Hope this helps I could have slipped off the positive connection on the switch while doing this. Thanks

its unlikely to be the earthing strap. worth checking, but the starter shouldn't turn correctly if it was left off

something wrong with the measuring

should not be able to get a minus reading especially when its disconnected

sounds like the meter is on volts ?

step one disconnect the pressure switch connector

step two switch the multi meter to 2K

step three measure the resistance between the cylinder head and the pin on the pressure switch. Should read 0 or close to 0

step four with the meter still on cylinder head and switch have someone start the car for no more than a few seconds while watching the meter reading

if your struggling post a picture of the multi meter

Here is a picture of what I had the multimeter set to.

Yes with key off it was showing 0.00/0.01.

Thanks

I take it if you touch the leads together you get 0 and when you sperate the leads leads you have 1. ?

If yes you should have 0 before you start the car on the switch and cylinder head, and 1. when its running

if its still showing 0 a couple of seconds after the car is started then the switch is faulty or you really do have low oil pressure. Shut down the car immediately

Yes meter shows 0.00 when leads are together and 1. When apart.

I will have another go tomorrow and report back it’s a bit fiddly trying to keep contact on the switch.

This is a video I took but kept slipping off the switch. You should be able to tell when car eventually starts as the engine moves. Not letting me post video sorry.
