Hi all

I'm new to the forum but have been loving my Panda 100HP for the last six months. Unfortunately I've had to put it up for sale, but almost as if it knew, it's thrown a check engine light at me.

It's giving a P120 throttle position sensor code. I've tried to clear the code but it just comes back instantly. I've taken it to my local garage and they've tried to order a new throttle position sensor, but apparently it only comes with the rest of the throttle body (£300).

I'm selling the car for £1500 (60,000 miles, but terribly flaking lacquer) so don't really want to spend the best part of £450 (inc labour) on it before selling it.

I've read about the throttle reset, and will pop down the garage tomorrow to give this a try, but my hopes aren't high.

I was hoping someone might have a clever idea for me to fix it. I'd hoped I might get a third party throttle position sensor, but I can't seem to find one online.

Any wonderful suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Prav.

find a new garage.

The throttle position sensor is replaceable ?

Unplug the connector and inspect the contacts. Its usually corrosion rather than faulty that throws up the error

I always thought P0120 was normally the throttle pedal. I could be wrong as I see loads of threads pointing to the throttle body

Thanks so much - that's really helpful.

I'll try to get the contacts cleaned on the sensor - if not will try to get the throttle pedal looked at. I was on quite a spirited drive when it came on so may be the pedal

Thanks!

A couple of other things.

If it has an electronic accelerator pedal, it has been known for the contacts in the plug to cause issues. Maybe a bit of dust/dirt from where it's down in the footwell.

Something else, how old is the battery?

I only say that as my MJ kept on throwing up the P0226 fault code for the accelerator pedal. Kept clearing it, but kept coming back, although according to MultiECUscan the pedal was working fine.

I heard about battery issues before, although thought mine was fine, as even in mid winter it'd still crank over fine, but changed the battery, fault disappeared straight away and has been fine for the 2 years since.

Thanks so much for your help - I'll speak to the garage tomorrow and get them to try to clean the contacts and check the accelerator pedal. Trust the garage a

I live on Jersey so generally journeys are short. However I do tend to charge the car up quite often and on the day in question had done a reasonably long drive.

I'll charge it up anyway to see if that clears anything.

Thanks again!

in the past

once throwing parts at the problem fixes it rarely is it actually confirm what the problem really was. You should put the suspect part back and see if the fault reappears

also once fixed there less incentive to update the thread with the solution as the car is now running fine.

P012? mostly appears to be related to the throttle body

P022? mostly appears to be related to the accelerator pedal

But a few are the other way round. Its possible that say there is a miss match between the throttle body angle and accelerator pedal angle the ECU gets in a knot

but its also equally possible that there's a problem with the scan tool, wiring, connector and many more

all of which makes the diagnosis for the next person more difficult.
