Hi!
The radiator fan on my wife's Panda 1.2 2014 seems to spin slowly when it's spinning, and only kicks in when it's really hot. The fan itself is free and not seized - I had that on an old Punto she had before!
I suspect it's the fan switch which needs replacing, as the car had a tell tale fresh pink stain/wet under the thermostat housing, I've replaced this, which included a new temp sender, but it's not sorted the lazy fan.
When I search the internet it throws up a normal looking brass 17mm switch body, different to the one on the thermostat, but looking at the radiator, in the top corner, opposite to the fill tube, there a green plastic unit on the fan shield, is that the fan switch, I can't see this as a spare part for sale?

Thanks in advance.

I suspect the fan is powered by the body computer using temperature sensor data. Check the coolant level is correct and check the wires feeding power to the motor are no damaged.

This is a guess (other should know better) but if it's like the heater fan, a resistor is used to deliver slow fan speed. High speed is full power direct to the motor. If the resistor has failed you'll only get high speed.

there are several setups

cars without aircon

generally only have one speed.

cars with aircon

generally have two or more speeds

Thanks for the response, I'm going to order the resistor as the car has aircon, but with the replacement thermostat housing and proper bleeding, it seems much better now!
Thsnks!

on a pre 2012 car

Slow speed
F06 power feed from relay T06 then passes through a resistor on to the fan

speed 2
F07 power feed from relay T07 power the fan directly with battery voltage

measure the voltage on the resistor while the fan is suppose to be activated on the lower speed. if one side hasn't got battery voltage then the problem will be future back

check the fuses. swap the relays

in the wrong section of the forum. Post 2012 section might already have experience with this fault

Thanks, the car is a 2014.

With the new thermostat housing it seems to be doing well, so can only presume the new temp sensor has corrected this.
