Morning all,

Mr Panda only came with one key, and it's pretty worn; the door locks and ignition are a particular issue. I've bought a replacement set of barrels with two keys in order to replace them. The doors and tailgate look quite simple; lots of how to guides online. The ignition barrel looks more tricky...

Having removed the trim and consulted the Haynes, it seems the whole steering column needs to be stripped and the shear bolts drilled out. One thing I noticed was a sensor on a plastic ring around the ignition barrel. With this removed the car won't start. I assume it's linked to the immobiliser?

The key is a standard blue plastic Fiat key, no sign that it has a transmitter or a battery compartment. Does the ignition sensor detect the presence of a key, the particular matched key, or just the position of the ignition switch?

Thanks, have a great weekend.:D

Hi

It will have a chip

What trim is your panda?

If its an Active.. you have no remote function.. so just need a new key cut and coded

Should be @£50

The CODE might be readable from the Body Computer.. I had 2 keys.. so never worried

My sons 2007 grande was an easy job

Basic key
Code from OBD port
£45

its easy to change just the barrel as long as you can get the original key to work

take off the trim
unclip the ring at the front
put in the original key and turn it
push the button with a screwdriver

out pops the barrel

no I can't member how far to turn the key
I think the button is underneath but I could be wrong

you can use the new key by temporary tapering the old key nearby until you get the new key coded.

no drilling unless you haven't the original key ✔

Hi, why didnt you go to a locksmith and have a new blade cut?
This usually cure's the problem.

Yup, if it's an Active it'll just have a simple transponder key, usually pretty cheap to have another one cut, had one done for mine at a cost of £50 and it only took a few minutes. With these keys they only have to "clone" it, so no messing about with the car's computer or anything, very simple job.
