100HP has blown a driveshaft - was wondering what the hot oil smell was coupled with an increasingly rough drive :p - and my mechanic (Fiat/Alfa specialist, official warranty service centre but not main dealer) says they're unavailable new and is looking at getting the existing shafts reconditioned.

Does anyone know if this is definitely the case or if its possible Fiat Ireland are being useless?

I'm "stuck" driving my sisters old Brera for now, so its not the worst outcome.

I believe there all the same 1.1, 1.2, diesel and 100HP

I don't have the parts list for the 100HP but the Diesel take the most load and thats the same as the 1.1

third party suppliers list all models the same

FIAT Panda II Hatchback (169) (Year of Construction 09.2003 - 08.2013, 60 - 100 , Diesel,Petrol,Petrol/Natural Gas (CNG))
FIAT Panda Van (169) (Year of Construction 03.2004 - 12.2006, 70 - 75 , Diesel)
FIAT Punto II Hatchback (188) (Year of Construction 06.2003 - 03.2012, 70 , Diesel)

except for parts manufactured in house. There always two different manufactures with different part numbers incase a factory goes on strike

then every little change of tooling or different grease and the part numbers change again

before long there 20 or 30 different part numbers for the same part

but there may be an upgrade over the years. As far as I know there no list of compatible part numbers. You would have to go into each model and each year and write down list of 10 or more numbers from eper and see if any match between the different models.

not enough info here

it appears the outer joint is the same as the diesel versions

This is the J&R outer joint https://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/fiat...cv-joint/JR399 Unfortunately, they don't have the inners. This is their complete shaft (LHS) https://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/fiat...e-shaft/DS1003 but both sides use the same CV joints - just swap the shaft.

The inner roller bearing spider is retained to the shaft with a circlip. I've not had the outers off the shaft. Quite easy to work on. You will need new clips for the dust boots.

I made a wide spaced wedge to separate the inner coupling from the gearbox. It's supposed to be possible with a crow bar (pry-bar) but I could not get it to work. Looking at the scarred used shafts on eBay it's not just me.

New gearbox seals make good sense - the rubber on mine had worn flat and one was leaking. Get the seals from Shop 4 Parts. They are a very tight fit so you need a suitable drift to avoid damaging the steel backing within the seal.
