Hi guys just wanting to see what the rough lifespan of the multijet pandas are?

I have just done the clutch on mine it’s a 55 plate at 135k which I thinking is good going I have had the car 10 years and done the last 90k on it shes regularly serviced and if she needs a part she gets it quickly but my mechanic who has done all work on her from day 1 did say the engines are only meant to see around 150k and might be prudent to think about a new car in next year or so as the bills might start to become uneconomical as things like chain and other big parts may begin to go.

I really don’t want to let her go so my question is how long will she go realistically I know there are many variable factors I say for certain but just seeing what other people’s experiences are on it. She’s driven sensibly and majority of runs are motorway and like said services well and regularly.

Cheers in advance :)

There's plenty of these engines that have done 200-300k on the original chain if regular oil charges are don't and it's driven with care
Just keep a ear open for ant chain noise at idel

Any doubts about the cam drive on any engine - just get it replaced. A new cam chain kit is a fraction the cost of a new engine. AND your new engine WILL NEED a new cam chain anyway.

At 135,000 miles the cam chain will be worn. When it lets go, the engine will be toast. Sometimes a rattling cam chain causes pretty serious damage without actually breaking.

every year I see less 169 Pandas on the road

most are 15 years old. Have little value. Of cause there are exception one out there. I paid £300 and £600 for mine several years ago. I will run them until they need some major work. Mines had a hard life. Pulled out of bogs, driven through fords and so on. The other is a 1.1 with 200K and no major work done.

Depending on its overhaul condition will dictate how much its worth keeping going.

sounds like your mechanic is giving you a gentle hint
