Hi all,

I've got a Panda Active Eco 2010 - really easy going little car. Recently had the cambelt changed and it's been kept in reasonable nick.

It's got an engine light and my mechanic can't fix it (he's brilliant btw) - says it's a CPU issue and I have to get it done at the main dealer (who I've never used). Any idea about how much is this going to cost? Had an old Golf many moons ago, which finally died as CPU was gone and it was more to replace than the car was worth. Am I flogging a dead horse?

Thanks all :)

Hi.

Cpu.. pc term ;)

Central: body computer

Ecu:engine computer

Does it not run..

There are a fair few common problems that effect engine running..

Personally I would detail the timeline of failure.. giving the technical details as best you can..

And we can advise you.

Where are you based?locatiin is good ;)

I'll do my best! Near Brighton btw.

So, when there was all that rain recently it went through 'flood' (according to step-daughter) or 'deep puddle' (according to hubby). This is what also killed my Golf, probably in the same place, so I think it's more flood.

After that started getting bad misfiring and the engine light is pretty much on permanently. Been like this for four-ish weeks. Mechanic advises getting it done asap as the issue can get worse if left. It's sluggish to drive and definitely not happy - misfire feels fairly typical, drags and then goes.

Best I can do - mostly I want to see how much it'll cost potentially to sort... Defo couldn't sell it like it though - it's constant and not intermittent. Pretty much out of action atm.

Yes much cheaper. Last one I got was a genuin Bosch for a fiver ftom the scrap yard. Although 3rd party ones aren't much dearer.

ECU is pretty well sealed from the weather

The error codes would help ?

however the MAP is in the air intake. So any spray sucked up would hit here first. They don't like being cleaned with water and drying with a hairdryer doesn't fix them. They will stand a bit of damp but don't know if spray is likely to kill it

First it needs testing. A faulty one can cause the car to run badly. How're the Panda will run fairly okay with it disconnected. It will throw the dash light though

not quite right but this guide is close https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/227405-1-2-1-4-map-sensor-replacement.html just need to remove the electrical connector and take the car for a drive.

report back
same
worse
or hopefully better

Good effort ;)

Thanks.

Ok.. so 2 obvious options..

Water 'in the works'
Water..impact bending..damaging something

The bigger common issue.. bad wiring to spark plugs shouldnt be an issue in your case
