Could see from above that the sump guard needed some love so that was one of today's jobs.
When I got it off I was surprised at quite how heavy duty it is! Can anyone tell me if this is the original for a 2006 car or has it been beefed up? Forgot to get a pic of the other side but there's steel bar running across at the bottom and half way up.

Thanks

Get it hot dip galvanised. If that's not practical - shot blast, zinc metal spray and epoxy prime is good enough for the Brixham fishing boats. Either option would outlast the car.

Hah no not the most practical. I wire brushed it covered in salt converter and caustic detergent then rust converter followed by epoxy primer. Pretty sure it’ll keep going for a while.

I had my back axle blasted and zinc metal sprayed fro £80. It's overkill for sure but far less hassle than trying to clean off the rust. We don't have hot dipping locally otherwise I'd have gone that way.

PS. I've had rusty parts blasted and powder coated but only ever found one company that could do the job properly and not have rust/corrosion seeping through after a couple of years. They were CJ Ward of Burton On Trent. Top people and reasonable costs too.
