Hi.
Just as I arrived home the car started to stutter and went into limp mode with the engine failure light.
Got the cheap scanner on and got a P1121 code.
Any ideas what it is?

Now got hill holder and esp failure.
Also fault code P1120
No throttle either. Fine when first starting the car then reduces to almost no function.

The accelerator is operated by electric switch.

Maybe remove the pedal and clean the switch connections. Think it's just 2/3 bolts that hold pedal in place.

Mine has thrown up this code twice since fitting cruise control which turned out to be the connector to the accelerator pedal had come slightly loose.

Will look at that.
Just been out to spray the ECU connectors and the bloody thing is fine with no error codes.
Could it be heat related ?
I did spray some WD-40 on the ECU connectors before finding my electrical contact spray.

Strange faults can be caused by low system voltage. It could be the battery or alternator, but to confirm, connect a voltmeter that you can wee while driving. Spurious volt drops will give you a clue.

That's a new technique for me. Can you give us a more detailed explanation?! :ROFLMAO:

If the battery is weak you will see a big volt drop when starting the car but it recovers fast because there's not much capacity. If the generator is weak you will see the system voltage is low (or high) possibly intermittently.

A basic voltmeter does not need to be super accurate but it can help you to see any trends. They cost a few pounds and are easy to fit to any ignition controlled live circuit.

...connect a voltmeter that you can wee while driving...

Sorry Dave, I get that and I have a voltmeter connected in my Alfa for that reason (and also to check the battery before I try to crank it over).

I was highlighting the typo in your reply which amused me greatly...

Hi Dave.
Do you mean one if those that plugs in the cig lighter socket?

I've just been for a run in torrential rain and all fine and no fault codes so going to risk it for my commute tomorrow.

I did check the voltage with the car running at the weekend and it was ok. Also when it was having the meltdown I started and restarted several times with no issues.
Will try again tomorrow.

Hope the squirt if the ECU plugs will tide me over for a bit. Should get the land rover on the road over Xmas and won't need either after my hip replacement on the 1st feb!

Cheers again

Hi. It thus an easy fit?
The Panda us working fine again but if it's an easy fit for £12 I'll stick it in the glovebox!
Cheers
it will be the throttle position sensor on the throttle body £12.00 on auto doc

Well bugger.
All was going well apart from the battery was dying if left unused for a few days.
Finally fitted a new battery this evening after the battery wouldn't hold charge through the day and now I have the engine failure thing all over again.
Hoping it will sort itself by morning like last time.

Anyone know how easy the sensor mentioned on the throttle body is to fit?

Turns out that the issue I had was a combination of damp in the ECU plugs and the battery running dead.
Once the battery is kept charged and the plugs were blown dry with an air line all was well.

Sods law as now my Land Rover is fixed I have SORN the Panda ready to sell.
