i,m having mpg problems with my panda.
before i was getting 54mpg now i,m averaging around 40-43mpg.
ive renewed
spark plugs
air filter
oil filter and oil
map sensor
both lamba sensors
and still no improvment and i,m at my wits end
dont know what else could be causing it.
PLEASE HELP

Check the exhaust is not leaking where the main pipe joins the manifold outlet. Leaks cause air to suck in making the ECU add more fuel to the mixture.

This needs an IR thermometer. Remove the exhaust manifold shield and start the engine from cold. The middle and outer pairs of exhaust outlets should warm up at the same rate. If either is slow to heat up, you are likely to have a faulty coil pack. They cost about £20 each so not silly money to replace.

I used this method to find a faulty coil on the 100HP but the manifold is better suited and each plug has its own stick coil.

Faulty thermostat causes engine to run cold so the ECU never gets out of cold start (rich mixture) mode.

where the main pipe joins the manifold where the clap is ive noticed little drips of water coming out or should i say condisation if you know what i mean so this woudt help would it

First off. Are you sure its lower.

if you reset the trip computer it takes awhile for it to settle down.

depending on the driving conditions you hit the reset at it can read High or low for a few hundred miles.

Also cold weather and short journeys will pump up the MPG around now. Although its not noticeable if you are doing 40 mile trips it is over 3 mile trips

low tyre pressure will also be worse now the temperature has dropped

its easy to check the exhaust. Put your hand over the end of the pipe for about two seconds. There should be a build up of pressure.

I,m only getting 43mpg and i used to get 66mpg

So.. tell us more.

Aircon in use..constantly?

Miles on the panda?

Average weeks use?

As an example.. my punto does 5 days of 15mins am : 25 mins pm - 15miles town and B.road round trip. @49mpg

Then weekends 110 miles x2 of fast roads 50/70mph - @54mpg

If I meet much stop.start traffic the mpg plummetts :(

48,000 miles on panda
climate control on but not air con
i do about 6 miles a day into town and back and sometimes do 100 miles.
on a 15 mile trip on the M65 its only doing about 46mpg

have you disconnected the battery lately.

did you check the exhaust as per previous post

has the clock restarted lately or the power steering light come on.

what tyre size and presirures

battery disconnected the other day
ive got fiat 500 185/55/15

66 MPG is unrealistically with the 6 miles into town in winter dragging the average down.

On a 200 plus mile run. With a following wind. Keeping the max speed to 50 mpg and loads of coasting I can get into the 70 MPG. If the car is used for mixed driving it will take quite awhile to drop to 62 MPG

If I reset the trip and do a few short journey's it will take months before it gets back to 62 MPG

I drive to hyper MPG but an average of 66 MPG in mix driving would be unrealistic and thats on eco 155s

You can't always rely on the trip computer to give you an accurate MPG figure, and anyway us 1.1 Active drivers don't have one to use.

I've been using fuelly.com for years. It relies on you recording your mileage and how much fuel you use, then entering it on the website. The site tracks your mpg for you and (as a bonus) you get to see everyone else's figures too. Really useful for comparison purposes. It also lets you see for real if and when your MPG changes.

If you look in www.fuelly.com/car/fiat/panda (and change it from US to UK units) you'll see most people using Fuelly and driving petrol Pandas get mid-40s to low-50s.

You could read more into this. ;)

Its cancelled all LEARNT setting..
and is basically more efficient on ECU map.. than the way you drive it

Is this REAL MPG .. or just the display?

I don't over worry about it.

The average over 4K is pretty close between trip and actual

Road surface East West from me adds about 5mpg over north south.

coming of the motorway 1 junction early is also more efficient to my house.

trip computer is very good for spotting things like head winds where you need to reduce max speed to maintain mpg

A failing thermostat will have exactly the effect on economy you are noticing. If the engine isn't reaching its proper operating temperature, you'll see a marked increase in fuel use.

Read this post.
