How do I find the location of the reservoir to check the oil level I can't find it anywhere at least not the round ball type could the car have an old type square looking container with a flat plastic cap on it as the car started coming out of gear when braking hard also may do a gearbox oil change any help much appreciated as not my vehicle it's the enemies and she's worried about driving it oh it's a 2004 1.2 petrol

clear plastic wraps around the gearbox. Only its top is visible from above

I've had a look at other posts and the electric motor seems to run for about 10 seconds when opening the drivers door and also I've ordered a code reader which should be delivered next week

Check out electrical side before touching the hydraulics - I reckon that's the most likely cause.
Brake pedal switch
Rear brake lights (connectors, earth, bulbs)
Loose connector (lots to choose from)
Bad earth lead.

If there are no leaks and the pump motor seems to be behaving properly, it could be that something is giving the ECU some bad readings, which can cause a shift to neutral.

If that all checks out OK, report back for the next steps.

Got myself a scanner and trying to sort that out the battery was a bit low this morning and the car wouldn't go into gear for ages then it went into 1st but not what I needed reverse I did notice the pump thing was running and also I could hear a sound like a starter motor trying to start an engine but the gear not engaging once the battery had charged a bit the bloody thing went straight into gear I have noticed that when I drive the car in manual it seems to change ok but I've i braked hard in auto it wouldn't change down just go into neutral checked the earth all seemed ok

Punto Mk2/A autos used the reversing light switch to tell the electronics when reverse was selected. ANY problems with the switch or the lights would cause problems (earth faults, bad connections, dirty contacts, etc). It's highly likely the Panda uses the same method.

The Duologic can be hard on clutches so its worth checking that is OK as it can stress the servo as it wears.

You can see how any of these symptoms can confuse the auto system.

Multi ECU Scan is the best software for diagnosing the Duologic gearbox. The registered version is €50. You will need a set of coloured cables and a Window PC.

I've not got the coloured cables yet but will get them can you tell me what colour wire is the earth on the rear brake lights will check them later and clean all the connections since I charged the battery the enemy said she not had any gear issues

I've checked the earth wires and plugged in the multi scan but haven't got the adapters yet but got a couple of pics I've anyone could shed some light on be much appreciated IMG_2633.jpgIMG_2637.jpgIMG_2636.jpgIMG_2638.jpg
