Unhappy I'm selling up

Well, it's time to sell the tiny avocado.

The other night I was browsing ebay with a bottle of wine (rookie mistake!).

I'd been thinking about upgrading since my finances have improved and had been eyeing up 100hp's. I've enjoyed this little car, it's been pretty good, so why not get one with a few more horses?

But I saw something else, a Suzuki Swift Sport which nobody had bid on.

Bookmarked it just to see what price it might go for. Come the last day, no bids. Last hour, no bids . . . . so in the last few seconds, I bid 10 over the starting price . . . . . and I won.

Ooops.

So mildly drunken ebay has forced my hand. She's off to a new home (have a buyer lined up)

I'm going to miss the Panda. The 169 feels like a old school car you can fix yourself with a basic tool kit. I only hope the Swift is the same.

Thank you to all the great users in this forum for taking time to answer my, and other peoples question. This forum is great, just like donkeys years ago when I came here with questions about my first gen Punto.

Good luck with the 'rice burner..'

They have a good reputation.. but the swapped wipers would drive me nuts..

Re: I'm selling up

Suzuki Swift sports have the literally the same stalk set up as a Fiat, indicators on the left, headlamps twist on the end, wipers on the right with a twist for the rear.

It was one of the reasons I got a swift years ago it felt quite Fiaty in many ways. Small, light, revvy without being the sort of fast plod will hammer you for.

Is it a mk1Sport? (This body shape, mine was a GLX).

It's a 2010 so might have had a face lift?

I've not long since started driving HGV and it's the opposite on most trucks I've been in. I've lost count the amount of times I've flashed someone when I just wanted to clean my windows :P

It is a facelift mk1, which is good news as early ones can't be run on 95 Ron which makes the late 30s mpg a bit painful.

Loved mine, beat on it everyday from 10k miles to 76k and it never let me down.

I did spend a lot on consumables..but that was my own fault for driving like lunatic. Rent for ring use them for a reason do the basics and they are very tough indeed.

Being tight, that pleases me

One thing that's disappointing, there isn't a forum or group that's even close to being as active as the Fiat Forum

Re: I'm selling up

Think you may be relegated to Facebook groups.

Which are grim places in general, the Mazda 3 is in "Booty shot Monday!" "Look at my insert generic mod" Which stereo?" "Which oil?" "Heres a photo of my dash that clearly shows I was taking photos of the dash while doing 90 to show you my stereo.." and the possibly related to the last one "I've crashed" and on endless loop..

Re: I'm selling up

I've always though the original Suzuki Swift is what the rebooted Austin Mini should have been. Much nicer than the blobby looking things made by BMW.

We are not discussing new cars, but the new Mazda 3 got a poor review from 5th Gear (now on Quest Channel). Skins and rice pudding and were mentioned.

The look of the Swift was one of the reasons I bought one, that and unlike the Bini it could seat 4 adults although the boot was only 211 litres so not great even before I filled it with stereo, still more than the MINI of the time though.

Tbf the Skyactiv G is not a fast engine but there's several in the US well into 200k + with just scheduled maintenance. They're strongly built and under stressed rather than fast.

Although fast is relative concept, they'd still keep a 100hp honest it's just journos like to whinge about anything that doesn't drive like diesel now it forces them to plan ahead rather than just leaving it gear and using torque.

OK I'm a bit late to the party, but so long ratty! Thanks for your friendly and entertaining posts that have helped make this such a great forum. Excellent bit of booze-fuelled ebaying too! It's always a good idea...

I was tempted with a Swift before getting my Panda, just my kind of car - small, light and fun. I went for the Panda 'cause I thought the design was more versatile, but I'm sure the Swift Sport will be a lot of fun on those moorland roads. All the best!

Cheers rmjbn1, I have absolutely no doubt I'll be back here in a few years with another Fiat.

This community has been a fantastic source of knowledge and great folks
