Hello and thanks for letting me join. I have been looking around this forum for a long time as had fiat multiplas for years (so very familiar with Fiat bizarre electrical occurrences) but now due to not needing the extra seats down to a fiat Panda.

58 plate, 1.1 petrol and I have been battling with the misfire issue on 3rd cylinder Have changed spark plugs, ht lead and coil packs.

Also found 4 earths in engine bay, took them all off and cleaned them up.

I also have another issue, with steering light... its either one or the other, they never come on together. For example driving into work today steering light came on, then went off.(steering was fine).. few minutes later EML light came on. so basically depends on how the car is feeling as to what light comes on.

The EML light is by far the most common.

I am not hugely technically minded but hoping someone can point me in the direction of a common connection/piece of wire or other earth that may be the issue with a picture and a big arrow pointing right at it..

I know its been asked many times before as I have read most of threads but thank you in anticipation.

The 1.1 does suffer with wiring problems near or at the engine ECU connector. This might help you with diagnosis. https://www.fiatforum.com/newbie-central/463695-panda-active-ecu-problems.html

The steering problem is usually caused by a bad battery or less commonly a weak generator. A cheap wired-in voltmeter will be accurate enough to tell you if the battery voltage is dropping low when the fault occurs.

If you have a cigarette lighter/power socket, this would be ideal.

Alternatively any of these are easy to connect so you can see if the battery is coping with the power steering load.,

Thanks for that... I guess its just matter of playing with the wires regarding the EML... it does always get momentarily better after doing anything around that area... and just been reading that going uphill over bumps seems to set it off could be indicative of wiring issue...

Don't have the luxury of a cigarette lighter socket but will get a voltmeter and see what that says...

A cheap voltmeter visible to the driver is very handy to have. Wire it to any ignition controlled live source. It will let you watch for trends on battery state and is easy to fit.
