Lol. I did, replaced the pads two or three weeks ago. But it didn't solve the issue.

I have a vertical "chatter" on the front left which leads me to suspect my suspension components.

I'm just waiting on the funds to replace everything in one go

Damn!!! :bang:

Have you changed the anti rattle shims as well???

It just seems to me that the top mount would not make this sort of noise as the bearing is surrounded by rubber, it would sound muffled I suspect, or more like a clunk sound, not a tapping kind of sound. But that's just my opinion as a total amateur weekend DIY mechanic :D:D

Unless the problem is in inside the shocks

To be fair I haven't. I just cleaned them up and carefully greased them when putting it back. It was a tight fit and I really can't see it being them, especially when combined with the additional play I seem to be feeling in the suspension.

Kind of agree, the sound at first is exactly the sort of sound the pads make when you knock them together!?

But the play in the suspension and the 'vibration (although the frequency is not high enough to really call it vibration, I'm sure you now what I mean) leads me to think it's something on the front, may just be a mount of some sort that has perished?

I need to research more, but my top mounts seem to sit of the top of the suspension turret and I can see a ring in the dust/dirt where it does make occasional contact?

I'm reluctant to swap everything out on a whim, but also don't want to spend hours working in one location to have to undo it all and replace something else in that location the next day, if you see what I mean?

She is just shy of 120k miles and hasn't cost me a penny in the last 5 years, so thinking it might just be a worthwhile investment to replace all the suspension components and mounts??

The suspension on the passenger side seems tight, no play, that's what baffled me when I started blaming the top mount.

Where exactly did you grease up on the brake area? what grease? I might do that as well :D

That's my worry as well with the suspension, spend time changing everything and it might not fix the noise.

cheers

I very carefully applied brake grease to the inside of the clips where the back plate of the pad would slide along/within track if the clip - didn't make any difference to the noise. Lol
