Are all the steering racks the same throughout 169 panda. My HP rack is knocking you can feel it in the rack. Ball joints and track rods are all fine. I have found one new on online car parts for £80 new. Just want to clarify I am buying the right one. Anyone got a part number please.

Speaking from bad experience, definitely different. The turning circle is smaller due to the 6 speed gearbox. Apparently the inner track rods also knock when worn. I mention that because when I got mine from Shop4Parts the guy said he’d never actually been asked for a rack for a Panda. IMG_2024.JPG

The 100HP has plastic collars behind the inner track control arms to restrict the steering lock. This is to prevent the LHS wheel from hitting the gearbox. Otherwise, the rack is normal Panda.

Before you attempt to change the rack, make sure your inner track rods are not worn. You will need a special tool to replace them, but the new rack will need new arms anyway so the parts cost would not be good money after bad.

Having been under mine to do the track rods, I cannot see how the steering rack can be removed without first removing the engine and subframe. Hopefully someone has a way of doing it.

If you can feel play while grabbing the road wheels at 3 and 9 o'clock whilst the car is jacked up, it might be due to the yoke pretensioner on the steering rack, I had the same problem, I tightened the tensioner up slightly and fixed this.
