Has anyone taken out their cd/radio out?

I want to connect my iPod to the better half's New Panda, are there any DIN type plugs on the rear of the unit?

I bought a Belkin docking station type thing from Amazon for £20.00 that plugs in the cig lighter and mounts the 'pod on a swan neck.

Ideally I would like to connect via a cable rather than use an FM modulator.

TIA

Err, thanks, but it's got a cd/radio.

I want somthing a bit more "positive", rather than a lash-up of wires and cables that the better half will not yank out cos' it looks a mess.

I guess I am hoping that by pressing the source button it would bring up an "aux" that would take a feed from the 'pod.

Ah well, back to burning loads of CD's from my MP3's.

What you really want is a :worship: Dension Ice-Link for your i-pod. You can get them on www.ipodmycar.com - Yes I know they cost £100, but it's definitely the best option. Great sound quality, no hiss, no break-up, etc. It connects into the CD changer dock at the back of your radio and you can control it from the CD changer control on your radio. You can either mount the i-pod in the car, but you need to remember to take the i-pod out of the car when you park up as thieves could see it and smash your window. Alternatively get it put into your glove box and no-one but you will know it's there... It also charges as you play.

Be aware that the FM modulators are illegal as they transmit and the police don't like that :D. The sound quality is no way as good either :yuck:.

Thanks guys

Might have to start saving, or hope Santa is reading this!!

Further to the discussion I did a bit of research today. The head units are made by Blaupunkt, the radio-cassette and single CD player. You can add a Blaupunkt multi CD-changer to either of these, they sell a 10 disc one for between £130 and £160 new at various sites but it looks very large and having checked the options in the brochure they don't do one for the Panda, this may be why.
Returning to the Ipod option for extra sounds, my friend advised me that on the Apple website on a Wednesday from 10am they have a sale of reconditioned models, up to 40% off and all guaranteed. I may check it out but apparently you have to be quick each week as it's first come first served.
I think the official Blaupunkt link cable that fits in the rear of the CD or radio cassette retailing at £65 may only fit the Nano or full size versions which start at £140.
I prefer the Ipod idea as it's neat and you can disconnect it and use it elsewhere. But having looked on the official Blaupunkt website today there are quite a few FAQ's about funny error displays on your head unit whilst connected to an Ipod, and some odd noises you may get.
Nothing is ever simple eh?
The original equipment 10CD changer looks tempting at competitive prices but it's a big thing and may be difficult to fit under the passenger seat or in the boot.
By the way, does anyone have a Panda with the underseat storage that is available for the passenger seat or is it a rumour?

I use my iPod via a wireless transmitter/cradle/charger that plugs into the cigerette lighter. It isn't ideal. The sound isn't that good and when you switch the ignition off, the trasmitter switches off. Also the fiat cigerette lighter sockeck (JAX?) are very loose. As you drive around the country you need to re-tune the thing and to re-tune it you need to make sure the auto scan facility on the radio is switched off.
These are the bad points. The good thing is I have about 500 CDs that are easy to access and all in a box half the size of a fag packet. I can use it in any car that has an fm radio and JAX socket. I also use it at home and have pretty much done away with playing proper CDs anymore.
I think the cable is a good idea. I might get one myself. Where would the black box go?

another option, one i dont favour as it would change the look of the facia, would be to remove the stereo totally, use an adaptor :

and put your own ipod friendly head unit in, but as the standard stereo does play cd's i burn for mrs t, she's happy to stay with.

oh and i had an ad in one of the motor mags a few months ago for a 10 disc autochanger add on £150 all in, will dig it out when i get a chance

I've got a Dension Ice>Link Plus in our 307. It's been a lot of trouble, and I'd have gone with another CD Changer (had the Blaupunkt 10CD in my Punto) if I hadn't sheeld out all the money already. That's more to do with the Peugeot head unit requiring an adaptor (so another link in the chain) etc. When it does work it's fantastic... However, the Blaupunkt hear unit ought to be better behaved as Dension do a direct connection to it.

Probably as Blaupunkt is German (well I think it is... and part of Bosch?), and I don't know if they have prices excluding tax (which is lower then UK anyway). There are some big German places that sell at better prices than UK equivalents, but you do pay more for the postage... Of course there's no impirt tax to worry about within the EU.
