Hi,
I have a 2007 Panda Active 1.1 Litre Petrol vehicle which has currently clocked around 73000 miles.

It has recently passed its MOT but there are a few issues with the vehicle that I would like to get resolved and I would be grateful for any advice from the forum.

I'll list these issues below:

The first issue is that the car has not been serviced for a few years now and I want to get this done asap but I am not sure the best place to get this done. The local garage I used to get my MOT done offered to do a service for £160 but I wasn't sure how thorough this would be - they mentioned an oil change and spark plugs. I'm just wondering if an official Fiat service would be any better than using my local garage?

I am also looking to get the car inspected underneath so I can be potentially aware of possible future faults that are going to develop - would this be included in a service?

I believe the spark plugs are going to need changing as the car has a slight rattle when I am driving it and I was told this is probably due to the spark plugs/ leads but apparently the leads are in decent condition.

After doing a bit of reading I also saw that the Timing belt could also do with being changed but I also read that it would probably be better to get a few other things done at the same time - I think it was an Aux belt or something like that?

The engine fault light is also on and despite the light going off briefly after the MOT it seems to be constantly on and not sure exactly what the fault is.

These seem to be the main concerns I have with the vehicle at the moment. I just want to make sure it is as safe as possible to drive and any further issues are kind of known about before they develop in the future.

Any advice greatly appreciated, Many thanks,

Panda man

the first thing in my opinion would be diagnosing why the mil light is coming on as that may influence the course of action you take, also if that light was on during mot it should fail. timing belt and water pump are needed if you have no record of it when it was last changed. a good garage will carry out any service work you require and be able to give you a full health check of your vehicle.

How long have you had the car?
How many miles since last service/oil change/filter change?
Does it have any service record?
How long has the engine management light been on?
Is it on constantly, or intermittently?

Until some history and background is given, any advice is just shooting in the dark.

You can buy cheap, run cheap and scrap it.

Alternatively take what you have sot out its faults and it will keep going for a long time.

Get a copy of Multiecuscan (free or €50 paid-for) and an OBD/USB cable which they cal also supply. It runs on a Windows laptop or there's an iPhone/iPad version.

Brakes, cam belt and clutch need serious mechanical skills. The other stuff just needs care and attention to detail.
