Does anyone know if the clutch master cylinder on the multijet is the same as the 1.2? I know they are different part numbers, but is that only because the pipes are different?
I've got a couple of 1.2 ones, but of course the Multijet chooses now to play up, and prices seem to have gone a bit mad for multijet ones.
 
The difference is probably in the pipeline to the slave cylinder. You can unplug the cylinders from their lines by pulling out a hairpin style spring clip.

First check the QD hose joiner under the LHS front wheel arch. They are almost always corroded solid so wont separate but could be bad enough to need replacement. If the connector is servicable, just swap the cylinder at the top end.
 
That's pretty much what I thought - can't think of a good reason why the actual unit would be different (but the it's FIAT, so they may not need a good reason!).
I haven't got the car back yet, so can't check the pipe, but I suspect it is OK - no leak, just weaker clutch pedal action, which is probably the Master cylinder, or the Slave cylinder.
Or the pressure plate.
Got everything except Master cylinder, so if petrol version is the same I have the lot.
Just noticed that my usual supplier stocks them with or without pipes, but only listed as suitable for the 1.1 & 1.2.
 
As I understand it, all models use the same clutch. See what ePER and Shop-4-Parts website parts numbers have to say.


If the clutch action is weak you probably have the master cylinder sucking in air though worn seal. I replaced both ends but suspect that I only really needed a new master.

We cant buy seal repair kits so it's wallet bashing time for a new M/C.
 
Just got an update - dodgy slave cylinder.
Got a lot worse very quickly so had to farm the work out to a friend, but sent him the bits to fix.
Master was OK.
Replacement slave cylinder was faulty. Grrrr.
 
If your master cylinder is old, it may well start sucking in air so don't lose that hydraulic pipe that comes with the new slave.

Repair parts are not available.
 
I'm having the engine & box out over the summer to do timing chain, clutch, EGR etc. so this is only a sticky plaster job.
Might interest others - this is the second LPR brand slave cylinder which has turned up faulty - one bad seal and one where the grub screw wouldn't undo. Actually broke an Allen socket trying!
Used a LUK one instead and all was well.
Could be unlucky but...

I do normally use LUK anyway, but got this one when they were out of stock.
