Hi everyone,

I’m new here. I have a Fiat Panda, 2006 model, and it’s my first ever car. I’ve had it since the end of last October and the engine light began flashing on and off intermittently around December. I got it checked over by the garage who sold it to me and they checked the electrics and said they were fine. After some issues with the seller garage I then went to Halfords and got a diagnostic check done and they replaced the spark plugs and ignition coil.

Now I don’t usually travel every far, only around town, but on occasion I will make a long distance trip to other towns a good 30mins/1hour away.

Everything seemed fine but it seems every time I go on the bypass at high speeds of 50mph+ the engine light comes back on, sometimes staying on for longer now and then turning off again. It did it the other day when it was raining (when it originally started it had been raining).

I’m not very clued up on cars, is there anything which might be causing this to still happen and that I can mention to a mechanic when I get it looked at? I've been back to Halfords and mentioned this to them, being advised to bring the car in for a check when the light comes on.....but as I told the mechanic, it'll probably turn off by the time I drop my car off to be looked at.

The warning light triggering at 50mph+ indicates an possible emissions problem. The ECU only runs an emissions test at certain speeds and engine revs and temperature. The stored fault code will give clues to what is the cause.

Ah, thank you. This sounds more like it. I'll let Halfords know when I take it in to be looked at.

Thanks everyone for your advice.:)
