Good evening fellow Pandistas, I was wondering about the general topic of fuel consumption on my 1.2 petrol. The fuel gauge is a curious thing having previously on my 1.2 8v Punto had a very large scale version now on the Panda it is a small curve which plays tricks on me!
I checked the handbook and it quotes a capacity of 35 litres with 5 litre reserve. I assume the reserve is the amount when the fuel light comes on, the red sector on the gauge?
I 'filled' the beast up the other night and the pump clicked off but I realised afterwards it was not completely full, perhaps you could have brimmed it with another gallon. Therefore I am putting in less than I think and gives a worse impression of fuel consumption - does anyone else find it tricky to fill it up completely? It's a lot better than the Punto which drove me crazy always making the pump cut out.
I'm not sure if the computer can be trusted, does anyone else think similarly?
In future I will try to brim the tank and take mileage readings to gain a good idea of what it is doing per gallon.

It is very hard to brim the tank, the last gallon takes ages to get in there! I found the computer to be out, it would read lower than the actual consumption, reading an average of 42 mpg as opposed to the actual figure of 45 plus.

When I filled my car up the first time, when the pump cut out I thought I would make it up to the next pound... 20p later and diesel was running down the side of my car.

Lesson learned - when it cuts out, I replace the nozzle .

Agree with Wee Smurf, with the diesel, when it clicks off the pump, you might get about 10c worth of fuel in but that is it.

The computer is reasonably accurate, but the last gallon might not be what it appears - over here we use litres, so it is shown as litres per 100 Kms, I can't make head nor tail of the results - have to convert the Kms to miles, the litres to gallons, then do the math on the remainder. Ain't "progress" wonderful !

just wondering when you all compute your fuel consumption, do you turn on your air condition on. it make alot of different

my wive drive panda with air-conditioning "on" consumption about 8.5L/100km. (ive tried panda without air con it gave about 5.5L/100km
i drive multipla without air conditioning the consumption is only 5.9 to 6 L /100 km consistantly

i am on 99% town driving

I have decided to only use the computer figures as a rough indicator. Instead using the old fashioned method of filling up and recording mileage then working out overall consumption on each tank of fuel. When the warning light comes on I think there is about 5 litres left. It tool 30 litres to fill right up which looking at the fuel gauge each segment is roughly one gallon and should give 40 - 50 miles on average. It can be confusing as it is a smaller capacity tank than my previous Punto so it appears you are using more fuel!

That's why not to buy air-conditioning! But I didn't realise it would use so much fuel - 3L/100 km is a lot ...

cannot help it, our weather over here hot at a time (80% of the year) that why we need air cond
