Technical Oil pressure led blinking when engine is hot

Dear Robert G8RPI,

Currently, I am in the search of new garage.

They told me that they read the fault codes with the original Fiat software, and no result.

I didn't crash in snow bank, the car was moving slowly, about 10 km/hour and then all the wheels hung. I had to clear the snow by hand.

How much has to be the oil pressure? to know for the next check.

For a 1.3 Multijet oil pressure should be

more than 1bar at idle (>100 kilopascal, 14.5PSI, 1 kg/cm2)
3.0-3.5 bar at 4000 RPM (300-305 kilopascal, 43-51 PSI, 3-3.5 kg/cm2)

Robert G8RPI.

the fact it failed after being hung up would point to the pick up pipe in the sump.

Oil and all filters have been changed which would surely have revealed sump damage bad enough to damage the oil pickup.

But to @chairik - is the oil pan in good condition after hitting the snow/ice? I mean it should not be bent or dented or suffering signs of impact damage? If that is ok, its unlikely the oil pickup has been damaged.

You also need to check all wiring to engine sensors and interrogate the fault codes with multiecuscan. Its highly likely the free version will do all you need. Get the OBD connection cables from them (FESSoft Ltd) to be sure they work correctly. https://www.multiecuscan.net/

I have a vague memory of someone with a very slightly bent sump having oil pressure problems when hot.
Not sure if it was on this forum or a Corsa/Combo forum though.
Same engine (1.3 CDTi) so I do sometimes look at them for multijet problems.

The first check was the oil pan, which is in perfect condition without any scratch because the engine has a metal cover. After that the technician checked the oil pickup and told that was ok.

My next steps are, oil pressure check and by using the https://www.multiecuscan.net/ to check for any error. I would like to ask if is there Android version of the software ?

It's a Windows PC one off licence fee or an iPhone on a pay per annum basis. It's not clear if the iOS version is full spec compared to the Windows version..

I still wait for an appointment in a new garage and today i checked the Torgue app in my phone with a OBDII. in the "Intake Manifold Pressure" in ideal I get 14.5 psi and in 4000RPM I get 22.5 psi. Based on previous posts if this measures are ok what is the problem?

But I would like yo highlight I wait for a appointment in a new garage for safe results.

are you sure the first garage measured the pressure and checked / cleaned the pickup pipe.

you would have to remove the exhaust and sump. You wouldn't normally put them back before fixing the problem

I was wondering about that too Koalar. From the way chairik's post is worded there's no mention of the sump having been removed and I can't think how you could check the pick up pipe without doing this. As you say, given the problem, surely you wouldn't then reassemble everything without doing in depth investigations into the state of the big end and main bearings etc?

seized turbo wastegate/wastegate actuator?

I was not there, but they informed me that they cleaned the sump as well as the pick up pipe. So I am not sure 100%.

This is the reason why I go now to other garage.

So the pressures that I mention early, are they ok?

The oil pressure switch can be removed and an oil pressure gauge fitted in it's place. This will show if the engine is making enough oil pressure. Low oil pressure means worn oil pump or worn bearings or both.
When done, the switch is put back again or replaced if it's in poor condition.

Hi guys,

I am back again. After two weeks of search in the official Fiat garage and 500€ no solution. The technician told me that when the engine is hot and works in about 4000rpm the oil pressure goes from about 4 bars to 1. So they had to change the oil pump, which cost me 500€.

Now the problem is different. The oil led blinks randomly 6-7 times when the engine is cold. When the engine is hot does not blink. And they told me that the entire microprocessor system (brain) must be changed. Which may cost more that 1000€.

Any idea?

Real oil pressure.. via a gauge..

Or what the ECU is seeing

If there are poor electrical readings to ECU then of course the warning lights will trigger.

Idea..
Have you had an oil filter change in this period??

YES Real oil pressure, via a gauge.
I have chanced 3 different oil filters and tested different oil types. First i used 10w40 oil and now 5w30 which is the correct based on the instructions of the technician.
Koaler the technician told me that he reseted the system.
