Question 2004 Fiat Panda Dynamic Coolant Temperature Sensor Location

Hi there, My 2004 1.2 Fiat Panda has recently started showing a P0115 code and so I was going to check the Coolant Temperature Sensor, however, I can't seem to locate it.

I've taken off my air intake and looked at the back right end side of my engine but can't see it. I took several pictures however I can't post any links at the moment as I'm a new user. :/

If anyone can point me in the direction I'd be really greatful. Thanks in advance.

Re: 2004 Fiat Panda Dynamic Coolant Temperature Sensor Location

at the back right hand side if stood in front of the car

pipe going into it and a green electrical connector

are you sure its not over cooling due to the thermostat. If the engine gets up to temperature then drops below 60C the ECU will throw up an error and put the fans on full.

easy enough to check the top hose again right hand side should stay cold for a few minutes when you first start the car. Its quite common for the rubber seal in the thermostat to perish and go missing

Re: 2004 Fiat Panda Dynamic Coolant Temperature Sensor Location

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've taken a look at the guide and have now uploaded the photos!

Thanks also for the information Koalar. I'll check the thermostat today. My coolant levels were a little low and so I'll top them up as well, do you think that could also have added to the issue?

Here's the photos I took. I can't seem to see a green electrical connector.

Thanks for the mention..... and I am still looking !!

Well actually have not ventured outside much to have a serious look. Maybe at the weekend. I was trying to download the eLearn files to see if anything there helped.

Mine is a 1.1 with the same symptoms. I strongly suspect the thermostat but it does eventually get up to temp but can dip to nearly 1/4 on the gauge again in this cold weather. I wanted to check/ replace sensor first just in case and figured this was an easier option. I have a stat on standby too but thought a quick check of the sensor connections would not be wasted time first - when I eventually find the sensor that is .........!

Re: 2004 Fiat Panda Dynamic Coolant Temperature Sensor Location

to the left of the yellow cap

two coolant pipes go through the bulkhead to the heater matrix

follow the bottom one to where it connects to the engine.

you should just be able to make out a bit of plastic

there's only two bolts but you will need a new hose clip

it is also clipped in. I can't remember from which direction. I "think" After removing the bolts it has to be pushed upwards.

Coolant temperature rising and falling is a sign of the thermostat sticking. The gauge is working fine, otherwise you'd not see the temperature changing.

Fit a new stat and see how it goes. As someone said elsewhere leave the rad cap in place and you will not lose much coolant.

symptoms of a faulty thermostat

should fail the top hose test

rubber seal in the thermostat has perished.

Ok. Thanks for that info

There is a FEINT yellow square drawn on that pic.

I had assumed by the directions given that it was coupled to the heater matrix tubing.

Perfect, answers my previous post too, thank you.

Need to get under the bonnet and sort things out now. Pretty sure it will be a new stat for me but good to know where the sensor is now too, just in case.

Thanks again....
