Exclamation Knocking/Vibration noise after new Brake Caliper fitted

I'm getting a knocking and vibration sounds when I'm in 4th gear usually when going over drain covers or bumps.

The brake caliper was replaced on the front left. The noises only occurred after it was replaced.

I'm not 100% trusting of the mechanic who done the work as he seemed to rush the job. He's a mobile mechanic if that helps.

Could it be loose or the caliper bolt not tight enough?

Thanks.

I'd jack it up,, pull off wheel and have a look .I had an intermittent similar issue and it was just the brake disc thin metal shield rubbing off disc occasionally - easy to bend back a bit ) .But I wouldn't ignore it . I think Fiats have a higher than average tendency to become 3 wheelers !!!! I had a 98 Punto Sporting do it once after a few days 'wheel bearing ' moan ... :-(

Ok thanks for your advice I think he's coming tomorrow to see if he can fix the noise problem.

At least he's not washing his hands of it so that's a good sign .Let us know how it goes .Mechancs can walk away from costly errors and it's rarely customers get satisfaction .I took a 3250 hit on a cowboy garage blowing up a 1.2 TSi engine after shoddy timing chain replacement .Told no point trying to pursue them ...

There's a spring plate in the caliper to hold the pads tight in their carrier. New caliper will not include that, needs to be swapped from the old one. My guess is it is still in the old caliper.

Well he's just finished and it turns out he fitted the wrong caliper as the bolt was loose. I'm going to use a garage in the future to save the stress

Thanks for your answers !!!

No matter how urgent, never use this guy again. Perhaps he's a mobile mechanic because no-one will employ him. Checking the replacement is correct is a fundamental part of any repair, but especially important when working on safety critical areas, like brakes.

Glad its all ok now.

Your right definitely not going to as he wasn't courteous about the job anyway!

At least he didn't charge me too much (140 Inc refurbished caliper and labour).

There are two makes of brakes fitted to the car. Bet the wrong part was ordered and/or arrived. They look very similar. In fact when I checked the motor factor said there is only one set of pads listed so they must fit both.

One fits better than the othere. Eurocarparts was the first one and the bolt wasn't a good match. The second one was slightly smaller caliper and fitted perfectly. I think the reason for it was because of the caliper bolt being different sizes.
