Sump Protector

Hi,

I'm a new 100HP owner, and when I was removing the plastic wheel arch liners (looking for rust, but none to be found - Yipee) I noticed some clips at the bottom of the plastic guard in-line with the crank, and some metal tags on the bottom of the front bumper. ePER shows a part ( 51757433) that looks like a huge sump protector (metal? Plastic?). Was this fitted to the 100HP and it's been lost over the years? Or was it just for the 4x4?

I'm tempted to replace it from a breaking Panda, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Re: Sump Protector

Do they look like metal brackets with bolt holes? Got those on mine too, also curious.

100HP does not have an undertray or sump guard fitted. I drove mine a very long way and never actually head it ground on anything. Its a belter of a car and I miss it.

Re: Sump Protector

My 100HP has a sump guard. It looks original with some front air scoops. It's attached with spring clip nuts (like these below) and M6 bolts.

I can't see it offering much protection for the engine. It's only PP plastic.

Should have one.
Seems to help with air flow. And the engine bay stays cleaner for longer.
Seen quite a few 100HPs with them missing, usually ones that have had front end bumps... maybe they break easily.

They are a bit of a PITA to re-fit unless on a ramp. Also make sure the front edge is properly located or it will scoop up water from puddles!

Re: Sump Protector

Yep should have a plastic under tray to help smooth air flow, aid cooling and keep things cleaner. The brackets you describe are what the leading edge of the under tray bolt to and they hang off the front panel.

The under tray needs to be removed for routine oil changes and the bolts are normally rusted solid so what tends to happen is the under tray is pulled off then either not replaced or bodged back on only to fall off subsequently. A replacement it circa 80 from Fiat.
