Technical reset abs light

Currently reading:
Technical reset abs light

yep, when my ABS code was cleared (just to test see if both sensors were still out) the EBD warning came up on the dash then the ABS light came back on (n)

my 100HP is booked in for both front ABS sensors
Well....bad news for me  abs pump down

phoned a Fiat dealership today for the price of a new one  £1600
i got one off ebay 2nd hand £29 today

Re code I don't know what the code was, I don't have a reader, it was done by the Fiat dealer for £80 and the simply advised ABS control unit requires replacement (it should have been replaced under recall in 2009 but instead was repaired, which I suspect is cause of problem for lots of mk2 panda owners, but don't know).

Get a copy of ECU Scan. Free is about as cheap as it gets and even the paid version is cheaper than having Fiat read the codes.

I was having trouble with the ABS light when I reached the car this summer. Read from the error codes which meant that the left sensor was broken. I switched the changed error code to the right. Then I read on any forum that there may be problems with moisture in the abs unit itself. Lost the contact then i saw once that there were moisture and erroded contacts. After cleaning and lubrication, I got the abs lamp to turn off without any reset of the error codes.

When you say after cleaning, presumably with WD 40 or similar, what was it you cleaned? the AbS pump or control unit contacts? did you have to remove it? or something else?

do I not need to buy a special cable? I bought cables for my vw online none of them worked with vcds lite, so in end borrowed proper kit with vcds cable (would have cost £300)...
would appreciate you further advice
where do I go for free scan software?

A Google of information given in Post 2 "multiECUscan" is a mere 12 characters and takes you straight to the developer's website.

To be fair you'll need to spend £50 and get a compatible OBD2 cable connector, but both = less than the cost of one Fiat dealer's code reading session.

ABS motors can be repaired or replaced service exchange. You Tube is full of "how to" videos for ABS units.

Also, don't assume the dealer is always correct. Example -
Diesel VW suddenly lost power and began to black smoke VERY badly. The obvious first place to check was turbo output pressure as it had all the signs of a blown hose or worse. But no, the dealer's computer says its the EGR valve so they insist on changing it. Sure enough, they were assuming the symptom was the cause and there was no improvement.

Removing a the undertray and applying Mk1 Optical System found the fault immediately - blown turbo hose.

yes I might be worth me asking fiat garage what the code was, I will look into ECU software, hopefully I can buy cable at same place, I have thrown so many away in past. Interestingly I had safe home modes on my sharan and it was hose to turbo, mechanic wanted to replace the fuel tank, after scanning and getting meaningless code...
I assume the garage tried cleaning the connections at the wheel but it might be worth doing this myself with wd40 at the wheels. My galaxy just had abs light on on and vcds was very good stating exactly what prob was sensor on right side, car failed MOT badly hence no car now and needing to get panda back on road..... its been off the road for a while

Anyone removed the ABS pump / control unit? any advice? p.s. Service exchange quoted £600 Fiat part £1200. I also had the perennial Power steering light issue at same time, they changed battery and it went, I got battery replaced under warranty, but replacement by my supplier, has caused light to go back on!! Sorry for adding a "new" issue, I wonder if car parts supplier.... big co ... has supplied correct one, thinking about going back to fiat garage and buying their battery...

Strange that mine was also a Sharan! The MOST unreliable (and unlucky) car I have ever owned.

http://www.multiecuscan.net/ runs on WIndose so if you are a Mac user - deal with it. ;)

Also get the muti-plug connector set from eBay and you will be able to see pretty much everything on the car's electronic systems.

It's not totally plug and play but there are threads in FF that give the details needed.

I know I should not say this on a fiat site, but the sharan was most robust and indestructible car I have ever had, after sorting the turbo breather pipe.
So far Panda most unreliable

I am still worried I would buy my 3rd Chinese cable that doe snot work....

Proof (if it's ever needed) that all cars "can" be unreliable.

The Mk1 Sharan was bought nearly new from a main dealer and it was always having something done. A similar vintage Passat 1.9-90 was totally reliable until a fuel injector failed around 110K miles. The fix cost £100.

My Fiats have always been reliable - when the effects of previous owner abuse were sorted out. The Punto HGT needed loads of work but none of that was Fiat's fault. It looked great but had suffered mechanical neglect. And was top totty when done. :)

Seicento and Pandas have been great
