Hello,

I'm going to clean the EGR valve on my Fiat Panda multi jet (2004) and I'm going to disconnect the battery, what I want to know is in doing so am I going to have to reset anything or put in any codes? Or am I safe to just disconnect?

Thank in advance for any help :)

The radio code is stored in the body computer so isn't normally needed; the only thing you should need to reset is the clock.

negative first
negative last
when taking a battery off a negative earth car
its so easy to get this wrong and cause a disaster if you short the positive terminal out :)

You will also lose any personal stored data such as fuel consumption, correct time and date, trip distance, and the like. Not a huge problem, but if you keep ongoing records just jot down any figures you need before disconnection. That is if your car has these features.

You can also fit a small wire jump lead with a 5 amp fuse between battery post and positive terminal. That's more than enough to keep clocks etc happy but if you do accidentally cause a bigger load the fuse will pop and no harm done.

TBH I've never bothered but it can be done.
