As I come up to having done 30,000 miles in my Panda in two years it's been a remarkable little machine ... the latest upcoming repairs:

Need a new rear wiper arm (got on eBay for £10)

Need new rear drum shoes (wheel was jamming, turned out the lining had fallen loose inside the drum housing)

Rear bump stop was detached and stuck inside the spring of the driver side.. cannot get it out. But it is in good condition, I need to clean up it's socket and refit it as the rubber itself is fine, but the socket is a bit rotten. Spring cups are still in good shape.

Hole in the front exhaust, catalytic converter section.. next to where the bolt is. BUT as my car has no flex joint.. just a poorly appointed straight pipe welded in, it will be difficult to fix without dropping some serious cash. Gun gum for now, and possibly welding a patch over the hole is my best bet.

I am debating whether to bring the Panda with me in the summer as I move to live in England for a few months... or whether I should relieve myself financially should something go wrong away from the safety of my relatives who can help me fix it..

Does anybody know how to identify what part I need for the drum shoes? Motor factors are instructing me that there are multiple sizes and that I cannot know unless I measure what is on the car currently... Is there any lazy way or must I go back up and re-inspect the parts? (I will do this if I have to)

Any other tips or advice on these upcoming repairs is appreciated :)

I thought they were all

Diameter 180 mm and Width 32 mm ????

The diameter is stamped into the drum somewhere. Can't remember where. I took one off to measures as I was told there were two diameter but when I searched I could only find 180.

Internal diameter of the drum you've taken off. Should be stamped on it somewhere. Or just tape measure the internal diameter

And the front to back width of the pads

Thanks guys. A local motor factors has ordered a part for me for £14. It’s the spring set for both sides. Now, do I just fit what I need or overhaul all the springs while I’m at it?

Spares could be handy for the future as I plan to get a new Panda / 500 after the current one. It’s my understanding Fiat haven’t changed the brakes in them .. and probably won’t for another decade lol

I would.

They will only sit on a shelf and get lost.

As far as I remember I fitted all the springs except the long top one while the shoes were off the car

Pushed the pistons in and pulled the bottom of the shoes on by sliding one side down an oversized flat blade that was resting on top of the other cylinder

I would agree with Koalar

Fit all the new springs to both drums - you may as well get the best use out of them.

Keep the old ones for spares - if you break something at another service they will come in useful, and if they get lost after a few years in store it is no great loss
