My battery is on it's last legs and needs replacing but I am not 100% sure how to work out what batteries are compatible? Looking at Halfords there is one battery for £98. I was thinking a battery for a Panda would be a bit cheaper than that.

Any advice on how you know what type of battery is compatible?

If you're after one right away, try Eurocarparts.

There's usually a branch fairly locally, just enter your reg number for the ones that fit.

Look out for their discount codes, their current one is Box90 and will bring a decent Bosch S3 (3 year warranty) down to £58 and a Bosch S4 down to £74 (4 year), the S4 would be my choice.

Go through the click and collect and they'll reserve it to pick up, they do delivery too.

If you want to mail order one, try Euro's sister site, carparts4less

Prices are around the same as Euro's discounted prices.

Steer clear of the cheapo batteries, they'll work ok but don't tend to last.
Halfords put big mark ups on most of their stock, only use them if you are desperate.

thanks, picked up the Bosch S3 yesterday for £58 with that discount. When removing the battery do you have to reset the immobiliser at all? On my previous car you had to set the immobiliser code using the key in the divers side door!

ECP will also give you £5 back for the old battery. A scrap yard may give you a bit more but it's slightly more effort.
You don't have to do anything with the immobiliser.

Cheers,

Good to know there's nothing to do with the immobiliser then. I have found a spanner to remove the strap but I notice that there's a couple of smaller nuts to actually get the leads off which I don't think I have a spanner that fits at the moment.

Hi,
You should not have to remove any leads. All you need is a 10mm spanner. Loosen the nut a few turns (Negative terminal first when removing) and the clamp should pull off complete with cables. Some models have a quick release with a leaver on the negative which is even easier.
