Read all the past threads concerning code readers, checked the suggested multiscan web site as was suggested.Still in the dark not the greatest computer bloke on the planet:)Could someone explain to me the cheapest and best way to plug a laptop into the car to diagnose codes/ switch of lights and so on-Have an HP elitebook pro,Or would I be better off getting a reasonably priced meter to do the job.

I'd advise just download it and use the trial version in simulation mode before buying a licence. Lets you have a play with the software before buying any cables/licenses etc.

You can choose your car from the list as normal WITHOUT connecting it to the actual car and have a play to see what it can and can't do.

I have used this bluetooth scanner on various cars to read and clear codes
As well as other functions

Can get some screen shots shortly to show the interface on my phone

The ELM type do not connect to the airbag or steering modules. Although it does connect to the dash module

Free version is fully working for engine and airbag. Logging as been limited to a few minuets and number of channels. Not a problem in normal use.

My son downloaded the free version yesterday for me, does any of the Multiesuscan do all other circuits through the elm cable if you pay?even if it is the one with the integrated red green yellow cables?

After far as I'm aware elm can connect to pretty much everything now
It can't definitely connect to all the modules of my 500

The reason I ask is the supplier Koalar put me in touch with is saying I need to buy all the cables for 39.95 for to be able to access all programmes, yet he also says you do not need the red yellow and green cables with his elm 327:confused:in his advert,If the cables could also be used for my sons Citroen xsarra picasso then not so bad:)

If you look at the list and find your vehicle it tells you which cable you need to do each job.

Ah thanks it is becoming clear now ,would a Launch c reader V obd2 diagnostics reader do the basic job engine wise? I did find my old maxiscan ms309 canobd2/eobd reader which i had for my Suzuki wagon, agin not sure if it would work on the panda and I would not want to do damage to panda by connecting it

You don't need any other cables.

There is a already a switch on the top of the blue box which does the same as colour cables

TRW Airbag MY99 |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL A2

Doesn't connect to the airbag whereas the KL does

Does connect to the dash. But the KL will not.

For every module you would need both. However in the last few years nobody has need to connect to the dash except if they were upgrading it.

I have used the cable to fix an airbag though.

Thanks koalar, I did wonder why he was trying to sale me all the cables as you had already said about the switch and that you did not need the colour cables so I will probably buy the elm cable as i now have the programme down loaded.

Afterthought IF I plugged in the maxiscan ms 309 obd2 to see if it works on panda and it did not would it damage the panda???
