Hi All,
Been reading the posts about Red steering warning Light on Dashboard,Today we had a really bad rain storm then every now and again the steering warning light would come on steering was perfectly fine this is a 2009 panda multijet, The battery seems fine turning engine over smartly enough and we had the side lights on and intermittent wipers with low heater.Would it be worth getting battery tested, not sure how old it is and do they still use discharge tester to check voltage?any other sensible options rather than Halfords??

If its only happing in wet conditions. Check the auxiliary belt. Could be slipping when water is sprayed on it?

The trouble with some car places is its on their interest to sell you a new battery. Often only just up to the job at an inflated price.

A friendly independent will often check free of charge but there is another snag. To check it needs to be fully charged and left to rest for a few hours. Not a problem if you have another vehicle to take the battery to be tested. An electronic analyser that also measures the CCA aren't that expensive nowadays. £17-£30

You can check the resting voltage should be around 12.7V but its not 100% but will tell you if there is a dead cell.

Hi I have got a 2009 also and I've had it from new.
Now and then we travel from Stoke to Blackpool to visit the mother in law, very occasionally and always in winter when the battery is being worked hardest and I had only been doing local mileage, we would travel up the motorway and after about an hour the steering light would come on but the steering would be fine. Now here is the odd bit, when we arrived at the aforementioned mother in laws, it was a tight turn into her drive and as I put the steering on full lock the light would go out and stay out.
So ever since I realised this was happening and I do stress it didn't happen very often, if the steering light comes on I pull over at the first safe place and turn the steering to full lock and the light goes out.....ta daa.
Don't ask me why this happens, for all I know its witchcraft but as long as it works that's fine by me.
Try it you never know it just might work for you.

Sounds a bit different to the normally power issue. Park up and switch the engine off and back on is enough to reset it.

First trip out after the battery been disconnected sometimes throws the red light without the steering going heavy. This fixes itself while driving. Almost as if it has to learn itself again.

Checked Battery this morning showed 12.75 on the meter, Engine turned over and fired up went for a drive to Hermitage and Back to see where long lane garage is and back about 20 miles round trip and no steering warning light So I think we can put this down to a water problem-It did fall down yesterday:)
