Can any body help me out please?
I only recently purchased the car for my daughter and
I have discovered a gearbox oil leak coming from the plate which surrounds the input area for the near side drive shaft.
I am assuming that this is a failure of the oil seal behind the plate.
As you can see in the attached pictures , it looks as thought somebody has given it a belt at some stage.
And I have also discovered that it is indeed a replacement gearbox.
I am assuming that once I have drained the gearbox and removed the drive shaft and the four retaing bolts to the plate it would be a case of fitting a new seal.
Do you need any specialist tools to remove the failed seal or to refit the the new one?
Any help and advise would be very welcome please

Thanks

Yes, it looks like the oil seal is behind the square plate.

You can see it (number 4) in the parts breakdown image here.

I'm guessing by the damage on the square plate, someones tried to lever the shaft out with a chisel or something.

The shafts aren't easy to get out of the gearbox, the clip on the end of the splines is quite tight and there's no room to really whack the inner CV joint case outwards.
Quite a few have had problems.

You really need a crows foot type drivershaft puller like this.

Goudrons, thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
Spoke to a few people on the subject and have manged to source another sealing plate complete with the 2 seals.
As you say , the only tricky bit will be to pop out the drive shaft from the gearbox end, but have access to 2 medium sized pry bars.
Hopefully will give it a go at weekend .
Thanks again for taking the time to reply
Cheers
Tony
